Thanks again to everyone's efforts in helping me here.
I'll certainly be using that number to assertively claim a refund, or an exchange, although I think I prefer the former. I've resigned to try to give the manual reset a go - and lose all my books in the process - today. If it doesn't work I'll phone them. And it's good to know I'm covered for a year if the item is faulty, like I said I bought this Kobo Libra 2 in May, I've kept it in a case and it looks mint. |

New post since I can't edit.
I've just remembered a vital piece of information I forgot to add to my initial post. I did not or had not sideloaded any books, or purchased any books, whatsoever for months on my device. This issue could not have possibly emerged or have been prompted by some sort of bogus book or file. I have since, namely last week, uploaded a few books on it, to see if it would change anything - but the problem still remained and remains regardless. |

Do you need advice on how to reload your books? How did you load them in the first place? It's usually pretty straightforward, whether they were bought or sideloaded with Calibre.

I have Calibre but I used a website someone here on this forum created. send.djazz.se 1 book at a time, but wirelessly. I'll just to make a list of all books on it, and I don't think I've kept copies of the ebooks I sideloaded so I'll have to obtain those again also. A slight update, I still have not done the factory reset on the device because I saw there's a new firmware update out. So I've a bit of blind hope I'll install it and the issues will get fixed. I have not used the device much since, I pulled out my Kindle 4th gen for the past few days. This morning I tried using the Kobo and the touchscreen input worked as I opened the device for 5 clicks, then it stopped. I restarted the reader multiple times, connected it to my laptop, and the touchscreen is still unresponsive. And now as I type this, it decided to work again. Let's see for how long. I've checked for updates and still no suggestion of a new firmware to install. |

And I wonder if this would void the warranty since I feel I'm on the brink for finding a way to send this reader back. Another update, I managed to make the touchscreen work again for a few clicks, enough to me to click on the factory reset option. And as it did, now when it comes to choose the language I want the device in, surprise, surprise...the touchscreen no longer accepts any input. The funny thing is, that hadn't even crossed my mind... |

Another update:
I decided to give it another go yesterday - after cumulatively spending hours and hours restarting, manually factory resetting the device again and again over the previous days. And at last I was able to set up the device. For the first time the touchscreen worked long enough for me to choose the language, wifi password, email, etc, etc. And now I have a seemingly working device, with no touchscreen freeze, that's fast and responsive as you would expect. The difference is, it's on software version 4.30.18838a from 10/30/21. I'm almost certain the 4.34 - dot something, something - update that mine got now a month ago completely crippled my device and was the reason for my touchscreen to repeatedly freeze and not accept any input every time I opened it. My wifi is off and I have my sync off (hopefully that ensures it doesn't update itself automatically when I inevitably reconnect my wifi). And I've not loaded any books on it just yet. I'll be keeping an eye on it for the next few days to see how it fares. Two days are not enough to draw any conclusion but the signs are good. Last edited by furious; 12-18-2022 at 10:04 AM. |

It doesn't. It will still update. Unless you install the patch to ask for permission, both wifi and sync must be off for updates not to install automatically.

I'm on the 4.35... update now, but spent a while on the 4.34 without any touchscreen problems. Also Libra 2.
