Thanks for this and your earlier explanation.

I was under the impression that the plugin was providing the database compatibility so that managing bookshelves worked correctly. I can't recall where I read it, but something said that even though the database wasn't supported, you could transfer books to the Kobo, just not mess around with bookshelves, so this is what I've been doing. Are you saying that this restriction doesn't apply?

Do I need to check the Attempt to support newer firmware checkbox if I'm using an updated Calibre? I've never bothered before as I tend to only modify Collections on the Kobo.

I forgot to mention that I do have Kobo Utilities installed.

Well some experimentation with the plugin based on the info from DNSB has restored all of my collections, which makes my life a lot easier - many thanks!

Regarding my initial problem with not being able to sync, it seems that my account on Kobo was deleted at some point due to inactivity. I've never bought a book, only syncing every now and then. Rakuten/Kobo claim that accounts are deleted when inactive for 3 years, so it seems syncing doesn't count as activity. I've asked that question anyway.

At least my collections are back, but all my reading status has gone for ever, it seems.

That might explain some things. I think my first account may have been deleted. Why they only half delete it seems strange -- you should be able to recreate it if they really deleted it.

I recently logged into the account on the website to change some settings. I guess i'll have to make it a point to do that at least once a year.

That is really useful to know, thank you for finding that out.

I will need to schedule a periodic login, maybe when I do a manual firmware update.
