If Amazon goes under suddenly I'll be in a bit of trouble given the amount of stuff on it which is KFX-only which I haven't bothered to download in other formats, but if *that* happens there will be such a political shitstorm as you have never seen in the mobile space, and I'm fairly sure people with books will come out of the resulting shitstorm still in possession of the books, Amazon's risible claim that they're only licensed notwithstanding (even if they are only licensed, the license does not say that if the licensor goes under all your books vanish! the obligation to provide them would be passed on to whoever bought Amazon out of bankruptcy). (Even if the worst happens, you're not likely to lose books published by major publishers, who presumably won't want to lose customers' good will by taking hundreds of books from each of them all at once: and they'd definitely know about this not only because their single largest sales channel had just disappeared but because a lot of their own staff would be directly affected, as owners of Kindles themselves. Who knows what Amazon's own imprint would do, since in that scenario it would have gone under too: a good reason to not buy stuff from *that*...) |

If Amazon was to do away with the Kindle and eBooks, I would think there would be enough advanced warning given that you could download all of the eBooks you've bought from Amazon.

Yeah, that seems pretty crappy. You're just contributing to eco-waste for no reason at all. It works exactly as promised. Besides, if you are buying a reader just to install KOReader on it, why bother with a Kindle at all?

I've bought plenty from *that*, but then they're all backed up, so I wouldn't lose a single one of them, no matter what happens to Amazon. So for me there's no reason not to buy them.

Yeah, the difference of course is that people know how books are licensed and are unlikely to let them get away with that if they try to claim that that actually *is* how it works, and not only ebooks. Courts have already thrown such claims out in some jurisdictions -- like the EU as a whole because one of these courts was the CJEU -- saying that the (various EU names of) right of first sale applies to ebooks and software in general just as much as it does to books.

Assuming you're OK with the idea of jail-braking, then returning it because it doesn't meet your needs in that respect is no worse than returning it because it doesn't meet your needs in any other way: e.g., you don't like how the screen looks, or you don't like how it feels in your hand, whatever. Unless you're taking it apart and trying to solder in connections, then presumably you're returning it in as-new condition, and it'll be resold, perhaps giving someone a slight open-box discount. No huge waste. Last edited by ApK; 11-29-2022 at 02:13 PM. |

I read a few hours with it and the only thing I like is that it feels quick when switching pages.
Libra2 screen is whiter. The PW fonts feels like have extra weight and I don't like it at all. Definitely KOReader is a must for me ![]() Sent from my CPH2021 using Tapatalk |

Why buy Kindle if not liking the interface of a Kindle?

There are a lot of out of print (and out of copyright) history, religious and general non-fiction books for Kindles, that aren't available anywhere else. That's mostly what I buy from Kindle. If I'm looking for a new book, I'll try to find an ePub from someone like eBook.com. Either way they get De-DRMed so I have a local copy saved.

Why not? It can always be used by any member of the family. Kindle interface is simple and intuitive so very easy to use by everyone. I just wanted to compare. I recently got a Clara 2E and the screen is much better. Perfect device.
