You have to forgive @hleo12. He's using a Kindle that has obsolete software that doesn't do series or collections properly. And it spends way too much time creating a FTS database that not many people will ever use.

Want to move in the the modern age and get a Kobo and donate your Kindles to a museum? Just keep one Kindle so you can download eBooks with your web browser.

Guess that depends on the type of person you are.
I read mostly (isekai / reincarnation) lightnovels, and usually one lightnovel has 10-20 and in some cases more books. i put them usually into specific folders and collections to have them more organized, but if i finish a book i usually delete it to make more room for more and "to feel like i'm done with it". i hate the feeling of something "unfinished", so i hate it when the book file and empty folders are still on my kindle after reading it.

it just feels more organized for me if i only have books on my kindle i have not read yet / i'm currently reading. makes finding a book i want to continue to read easier because i don't have to search through 100s of books i have already read.

i mean, i currently have that many books on my kindle.. even if i would read 3-4 books each week, i could read a whole year or two without having to sideload more books. if you don't organize that somehow..its just chaos.

imagine having like 1000-5000 books or so in a list and having to find books you have not read yet (i don't really use filters, so i have to browse manually through my collections). yes, it shows the % on the name.. but it still clutters your list full with already read books. which sucks imho.

Hmm... If I just did re-reads of what is on my Sage (~2400 books), I could avoid buying new books for 20 months or so. If I went with my Clara HD, with it's 13,482 books, I could avoid buying new books for about 9 years. Though the Clara HD was more about how many books can I stuff it with after upgrading the internal storage to 128GB and will it work with that many books.

I really don't need to imagine that since I currently have over 13K books in my digital collection. I have a Finished column in calibre which is updated every time I connect my ereader to calibre, it becomes a matter of clicking on the Finished column to sort.

On my Sage, I just select Unread in the filter for Books view which currently shows 3 books as unread. Also nice is that the filter options show the number of books in that category without having to select an option. So currently 2407 books of which 14 books are in progress (Reading) and 2390 books are Finished. The remaining filters are less useful to me. 286 books are Purchased (synced directly to the ereader), 87 books are Kobo Plus (Kobo's equivalent to KU without silly limits on the number of books or exclusivity) plus Imported and Downloaded which I never use. I can also use the Authors and Series views. There is also a Collections view which has one collection (Finished). I used to have more collections but when series view was introduced, 99% of my collections were obsoleted since it is just faster to search for title, author or series than to scroll through a few hundred collections.

BTW, the in progress books are all cookbooks which are hard to just read through since I tend to go back and look at multiple recipes in multiple books.

And yes, I do read that many books per month. If the NHL and CFL went out of business, I could get even more reading done.

The problem is that if you leave those empty directories, eventually you will run out of directory space.

I have been using Kindle devices and apps now since I believe 2009, at least that is how far back my Amazon account started and I created it because of books. I have never jailbroke any of my Kindles, tablets or phones. As an IT Professional I followed the rules that we gave to the network users and employees and contractors. I am now retired over 8 years and upon retirement, scrapped or gave away all my windows and Linux computers, I made a promise to my wife and kept the advice of my dad and retired in the entirety. I do have a Kindle, an iPhone and iPad. I love reading, and pencil art.

I've been collecting ebooks since I first picked up a pdb format ebook for a Palm PDA. On my computer, I got started with .lit format ebooks using the Microsoft Reader application in 2001. So it's been around 23 years though I didn't switch over to ebooks full time until ~2007. Baen was binding CDs of ebooks into some of their hardcovers so buy 1 hardcover, get a collection of free ebooks starting with the Honorverse CD in 2002. Admitedly, the formats on that one were likely not very familiar to current ebook readers.
