I have exactly the same problem: poor bandwith and a lot of problems for sync the index.

My synchronization provider (Tresorit) does not allow me to exclude files at the moment. I am looking for another sync provider for my Calibre library, but I confirm the problem. If only the index could be stored inside a folder, most of the sync providers allow to exclude folders.

For the moment, I had to cancel the full text search, but it's a pity.

I would also like to ask if any of the old full text search plugins allow to modify the index location (and if it is safe).

Thank you very, very much.

Instead of using your storage provider's sync service perhaps you could use a dedicated sync tool in conjunction with Tresorit.

I use GoodSynch with OneDrive, there are quite a few calibre users who use FreeFleSync with DropBox. I know GoodSynch allows file exclusions and I think FFS does too.

Thank you, GoodSync is very interesting, but you can't disable one file sync and my bandwith problem remain the same.

While I am looking or waiting for a solution, I have deactivated FTS. It is too big a file and also a file that change frequently. It is not appropriate for synchronization. Perhaps for backup from time to time.

That's why I was thinking that maybe it would be interesting to save it somewhere else, and not in the "Calibre block".

If Tresorit has an option to not sync symlinks (or it blissfully ignores them) you could move the full-text-search.db file out of the library folder, and create a symlink named full-text-search.db that refers to the new location in the library folder - I know calibre can handle that, because I tried it.

I think I will rather explore other full text search engines that index epub files.

I seem to have a DTSearch license and I'll give it a try, or else I've seen DocFetcher.

It's just that an automatic sync or backup (locally or in the cloud) for a 15 Gb db file just because is nonsense.

FWIW: I use Windows Search with this EPUB iFilter ==>> Content Search EPUB. If I want to 'mark' what it finds in a calibre library I make use of the Drop Search Results plugin.

This is years late but I figured I should try to do a good service here. I ran into the same issue and rather than unsync the entire calibre library I dug around for an option.

Here is a forum post with an answer on how to do it.

In short, you need to use gpedit.msc (group policy editor) to pull this off, but by default the options aren't there for personal. You need to move these two files first.

Run (Win+R) gpedit.msc -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> OneDrive -> Exclude specific kinds of files from being uploaded

Choose Enable, then hit keywords and put in full-text-search.db then okay.

Next you need to move the file somewhere its not synced. Delete the full-text-search.db file, delete it from one drive, and delete it from your recycle bin (in one drive) just to be sure. Finally restart your PC and move it back, it should no longer sync.

If you don't see the option you can follow the instructions in the post to put the options in the all settings tab but they were there for me.
