For what it is worth, I looked at the OTF versions of the Domitian. From FontForge, the Bold & BoldItalic variants were set to 700 Bold, the Italic and Regular variants were set to 400 Regular. I did change the font filename for the Domitian-Roman.otf to Domitian-Regular.otf. I copied the 4 fonts to my Sage and opened my font test epub. I've attached an image of one of the test pages which seems to show regular, italic, bold and bold-italic being rendered properly.

Did you use a set of Bookerly files extracted from a recent Kindle firmware or the old ones downloaded from Amazon?

I cannot remember anymore where I got my bookerly fonts. I want to share it here so others can take a look but i am not sure if that is allowed.

I tested one set of fonts and using Fontforge, i edited its weight as per instruction on Jackie's post as linked a few posts above, and edited the names. I swapped the names of bolditalic and italic with the hope that the libra 2 will read the italic as bolditalic so it will show foreign words in italics in bold italics but it failed. nothing happens. italic texts are still in italics

Sorry but the Bookerly fonts are copyrighted by Amazon so posting a copy here would not be permitted. As for my font test file, it's been posted on Mobileread several times but I'll attach a copy to this message.

I understand. Thank you very much.

I tried changing the value of the weight of the Domitian-Italic.otf from 400 Regular to 700 Bold but the generated font always revert to its original value when i open it again in FontForge. I was hoping the italics text in my ebooks will be displayed as bolditalics if i edit the weight.

Edit: UPDATE:

Using your test epub, fonts are displaying correctly. it is the Bookerly font I have that is buggy (displaying italics in bold italics). I chanced upon a reddit post 3 years ago having the same bugs: https://www.reddit.com/r/kobo/commen...stalled_fonts/

One commenter posted this happened also in his sage:

Quote:
Thank you for posting this. Still appreciated two years later, as this method still works on the new Kobo Sage for the same issue.

and still searching led me to this post of jackie which makes me believe this bookerly post in their discussion was the same ones i use: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...73&postcount=4

@DNSB-
Since you have confirmed that Domitian is being rendered properly, can you explain to a novice why the Advanced (weight) feature on Kobo is ineffective? I have not found this to be the case with other sideloaded fonts.
