Are you running the batch file as Administrator? If you are using Kobo version 4.30.188838 I can send you a PM containing the files in the Out directory. The only patch I have activated is the one enabling Advanced font setting. And of course for Libra 2. Then all you will have to do is do step 7 of the instructions. Quote:

I have tried running the batch file as Administrator, to the same effect. However, I do have something called KoboRoot tgz in the .src file. Has this somehow been created by what appeared to be failed efforts to open the .bat? Should I try to put this into the .kobo folder of the device? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I'm not very techy and this is the first time I've tried this. |

However, to remove all doubt, I suggest you open kobopatch.bat in your text editor and add a new line at the end of the file, i.e. add Code:
PAUSE Code:
Successfully saved patched KoboRoot.tgz to KoboRoot.tgz. Remember to make sure your kobo is running the target firmware version before patching. |

jackie_w I did as you suggested, then ran the .bat. Instead of closing it showed a message which said:
"The system cannot find the path specified." then told me to press any key to continue. |

If you go to the out subdirectory you'll find a log.txt file. Open it in your text editor and post here the last few lines. I think I know what the problem will be but I'd rather be sure.

In the Out subdirectory I found a blank txt file called "run Kobopatch to generate these files". I wasn't sure if by 'here' you meant in this thread or in the txt file, so I pasted "the system cannot find the path specified" (without quotes) into the empty txt file.

Did you download a copy of the 4.30 firmware .zip file (kobo-update-4.30.18838.zip) and copy it to the \src subdirectory before you tried to run kobopatch.bat? If the answer to the above is 'No' then please do so and rerun kobopatch.bat by double-clicking on it. Otherwise, if the answer is 'Yes' then I need to try to reproduce exactly what's happening on your PC. So, please take a copy of the following 6 files and zip them up into a .zip file and attach it to your next reply. The zip should be very small so well within the forum size limits for zip attachments. Code:
kobopatch.yaml kobopatch.bat src\libadobe.so.yaml src\libnickel.so.1.0.0.yaml src\librmsdk.so.1.0.0.yaml src\nickel.yaml |

So I found and downloaded the correct firmware and unzipped it into the src file. I'm not sure if this was the correct place to put it. All the contents from the unzip are now loose in the src file. In the src file I can see: KoboRoot (a folder containing all manner of strange things) kobo-update-4.30.18838 (a folder containing the upgrade folder and manifest.md5sum) download_firmware_here.txt kobopatch.bat KoboRoot.tgz libadobe.so.yaml libnickel.so.1.0.0.yaml librmsdk.so.1.0.0.yaml nickel.yaml Is this what I ought to be seeing? I've put yes and no in the yaml files depending upon whether or not I want that function. That seemed the easy bit, especially where you put links to mobileread pages and images in order to make it clear what the patches did. As you can probably tell from my dedication, I'm determined to get this done. I'm very visual and fonts are important. Thanks for the help. |

When you run the .bat file, it is hitting something wrong and closing. In the patches, go to the 'out' folder. In that folder there's no 'KoboRoot.tgz', check the 'log.txt' file. It will tell you what the error is. Windows will run .bat files easily enough. But if it runs into an error, it has an annoying habit of closing the window before you can see what the error was. If it works, the window will stay open with some weird message like 'Waiting 60 seconds because of Windows'. Last edited by ZodWallop; 03-26-2022 at 12:01 AM. |

* When it says 'Copy the firmware file to the src folder' you put the 'kobo-update-4.30.18838.zip' file into the src folder. Don't unzip it. Just put the single .zip file in there. ** Your Kobo should be running the same firmware you are using for the patches. If you are using the 4.30.18838 patches, make sure your Kobo is running firmware 4.30.18838 already. Last edited by ZodWallop; 03-25-2022 at 11:58 PM. |

Looks like I'll have to begin again. I'll keep the main yaml files, which have already been edited. Redownload the patch and the firmware (it was hard to find the firmware my Kobo's running 4.30.18838 to download, everywhere I looked was offering the 4.31 firmware).
I'll put the zipped firmware into the src folder. What determines whether I need to install this firmware onto the reader at this point? It already has it - it came with this firmware already installed.* *Once I know the answer to this question, I'll proceed as follows, unless someone tells me I shouldn't. Replace the four yaml files with the ones I've edited. Run the .bat file. Then put the KoboRoot tgz into the .kobo folder of the Libra. And hope it works! If this is the correct proceedure, please let me know and I'll try again - without making such a pig's ear of it! ![]() |
