I don't know. I've not tried it. It's just a suggestion to stay on 4.30 and be able to use Pocket and/or sync. I'm hoping the firmware server is different then the other servers.

Database backup error on new laptop, but not on old one

Hi.

I've just bought a new laptop. First of all, I transferred the whole library to the new one - apparently successfully.

But now I have a strange problem, which is that the new one can't back up the database, but gives me an error message. But when I plug the device (Kobo Libra 2) into my old laptop, it backs up fine.

Any ideas?

Could the problem somehow be caused by the fact that my old laptop (which backs up the database fine) is Windows 10 and the new one is Windows 11? Maybe different default file locations or something?

It's just really weird that one backs up fine while the other (with the entire library simply imported from the first computer) has a problem.

The path is not the same?
If you did not edit your post, the folder /FULL path does not exist.
You need to reconfigure the plugin on the new machine (and create the folders)

This may be stating the obvious but the error message says it's having trouble writing to directory C:\Users\User\Documents\eBooks\Calibre database backup.

Have you checked that this directory actually exists on your new PC?

If it's not that then the next thing I'd consider is choosing a backup directory which doesn't contain spaces in its path.

BTW that is not a Calibre Database, it is your Kobo database. The tool just runs under Calibre (there are 2 Calibre files on the Kobo, to speed up On Device, but the big one is ever changing, so backing that up is moot.
The little one identifies the device (type-user) to Each Calibre host. Calibre does not use the device SN, only the Kobo backup

Ah, okay. Thanks. I didn't edit it, no. I assumed it would just create whatever folders it needed to create, given that the instructions for transferring the whole library etc. to a new machine don't say anything about having to do this manually. I'll try and sort it out, and let you know how it goes...

Plugin configuration is not adjusted, even if you use the Export/import tool (it has no way to know where you put other things, like this)

I must admit that I don't know what "plugin configuration" means here. Which plugin? Kobo Utilities? So I didn't know what you meant in your previous message by "reconfigure the plugin"? How, exactly?

Yes Kobo Utilities:
Typically, you right click the device Icon (device connected) (applies to most devices)
Kobo Utilities Extended (the Kobo Icon on the toolbar) Has a huge list of things you can do.
In your case, this is the one you want: It will be on the Devices tab (after you click the model)
You can have different folders for each device. Each is configured AFTER selecting above
(eg Aura2, Libra2)

If I right-click on the device icon, I get what appears in the attached image. I've searched through all the tabs, but none of them seem to have an option for specifying a location for the backup. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious - it can't possibly be this difficult! But if you could point me in the right direction, that would be much appreciated.

Or, if you could point me to a step-by-step guide for this kind of thing, that would be great. I've been looking at the User Manual, but that doesn't seem to have what I want.

That is a KoboTouchExtended driver configuration not a Kobo Utilities plugin configuration page. I've attached an image of the second page of the Kobo Utilities configuration. See the [GUI Plugin] Kobo Utilities thread for more information.
