If you have Font-Forge installed, set the Panose weight (Font Info => OS/2 => Panose from Demi to Bold for the Bold-Italic variant. You can leave Regular and Italic at Medium and Bold at Bold.

I've attached some screenshots of Bookerly on my Libra Colour. This seems to show that italic can show as non-bold. If after installing the modified Bookerly in the fonts folder, if Bookerly was in use, a restart might be needed to force a reload of the fonts.

I created that test file years back since when I was having issues with various glyphs and text styles and wanted a way to quickly eyeball them. There are several copies of various generations of that test file kicking around attached to various messages on Mobileread. I've attached a copy to this message.
