Isn't the way others do it is by not having a Wacom layer? I bet just suspending the Wacom screen will bring about a great deal of enhanced battery time. Unless I am incorrect, unlike the iRex, the Digital Reader never shuts Wacom off. Isn't that a great deal of the problem?

the ver 1.5 release sounds very promising and i eagerly await it.

and give that it is in beta, i would rather now wait than speculate what the new functionality would be like. hopefully the APM and page turning improvements are really substantial.

I agree with you that without "between page turn suspend" the battery life won't be extended by very much during normal reading. I don't see how iRex is ever going to get to Karel's "battery life will effectively be several days" target. I guess they are assuming 1-2 hours per day reading.
Yeah, it does sound different than how they original explained it. We'll have to wait until it's released to see how it really works.

Edit: I wonder if the first "minutes" above was a typo and is supposed to be "seconds"? I've posted on their forum to see if that's the case.

The Wacom layer only uses a significant amount of power while you're actively writing. Suspending the screen doesn't make much difference as long as you're not using the pen. The iLiad does suspend the screen, but it doesn't really make much difference in the battery life.

I don't really want it shutting down automatically.

I just wanted a suspend to ram and suspend to flash.
Automatic shutdown after a specified period of inactivity is extremely useful - eg for when you fall asleep at night while reading a book. The CyBook has this feature, and I have it set to an hour.

That's what the suspend to flash will be for, but it's not ready yet. I think the automatic shutdown is just a temporary thing until they have suspend to flash ready.

PDF Stability

I just hope they improve PDF stability - I find there are a great number of PDF's that simply crash on certain pages - very fustrating

Are they? I won't be very happy with this...

This is related to another thread here that has got little response, but shouldnd IREX seeing as pdf is their main format at the moment, shouldn't they be issuing "best practise" advice or guidelines for formatting pds so as to make them as compatible and compliant with their reader's

Until now I never had a problem with a pdf. Is there a specific reason why your pdf crashes?

text only pdf's work fine but my experience as i you add images the open times take a long time and when turning pages some just simply dump you out of the pdf or freeze. My sony ebook reader will plow through them no issue although they are too small to read - so it can be done

Thats curious. I've opened a lot of pdfs until now. Some with heavy image use, grafics etc. I opened 40MB newspapers with a hughe format ("die Zeit") and lots of images - no problem.

Can you upload such a pdf?
