Really poor result for eink reader. I could probably get this kind of battery performance reading on my 10.5" OLED tablet in dark mode

Yep, it's disappointing. Still, not enough for me to return the Sage. I love it in most other aspects and I don't want to read books on LCD/AMOLED. Also my reading sessions usually don't last over 3 hours at most, rarely longer, so I can live with this very anemic battery.

I'm waiting impatiently for the power cover, which I've already ordered from Amazon.fr. I'll be using it between reading sessions, as it's too heavy otherwise.

I make a test. I open a book and turn te pages one to one from page 1 to page 400 and the battery only drains 2%.
This mean that the battery is draining in the wait time...

At least you can pre order it, it’s not available on Amazon in the US that I can see.

Yes, but there's no guarantee it will ever actually be in stock there. It's entirely possible that I'll have to cancel my pre-order at some point and buy elsewhere. They still don't have the Libra 2 in stock (which I've also pre-ordered), and it's available in several other stores. We'll see.

This was my thinking too. Since the Sage apparently runs off a single AAA battery, I'll take that as a message to get up and move around every couple of hours

Perhaps it's not a fault then, but a feature! An ereader that doesn't let you become a couch potato.

which means that the fault lies with the software, then there must be hope for a firmaware update that solves this no?

It seems that it is not the time that the processor is processing. But it can be, for example, the light ... the next test I will do is to read normal but with the light off. maybe what is wasting the battery is the light ..

I just cancelled my pre-order for the sleep cover (made October 15, still not available at Fnac). That gives me time to see whether a new F/W improves the battery performance, and decide whether I should buy the charging cover. I'm in no hurry since I only use them when traveling and my next holidays will be in January (crossing my fingers there won't be a flare-up of Covid this winter).

I made some tests yesterday evening
  • start 69%, light 30%, natural light 3 steps up
  • 1st hour => 62% plain reading
  • 2nd => 52%, I finished the first book so searching which would be next
  • next 34 min. => 44% still much to-ing an fro-ing
  • next 8 min. => 35%! idem
  • next 47 min. => 21% mostly reading.
So, terrible. But the % tends to drop more and more quickly, and then stall for a long time at 1%, and a full test would need a full discharge, after doing it at least 3 times. Which I did, but I don't have the time to do it anymore since I do like to read on the Sage and don't want to fall back on the Libra 1 on the go. Also I'm always loading new books and syncing reading positions with the Elipsa.

My tests
I uninstalled nickelmenu.
I have installed only nanoclock with the option to see the battery status every page change.
All test with WiFi an Bluetooth off

1- light off 12 minutes of reading to 1% reduction.
2-light 10% 7 minutes of reading to reduce 1%
3-light 20% 6 minutes of reading to reduce 1%
4-light 100% 1.5 minutes of reading to reduce 1%

Seems to be related with light.....

Are you on 4.30 fw? Is nanoclock working on that fw?

I wonder why the problem seems specific to Sage. For most of my Kobo readers, in bright daylight I read at 100% light and have had nothing like your 4th line.
