It *allows* you to (fairly) easily override what you want. (Or *all* of it at once, as we do have a "murder embedded style" button, after all ^^).
The defaults are still to honor embedded styling (to the best of CRe's ability), with a fairly small set of non-moronic base styling.
I appreciate the balance in KOReader because editing CSS requires typing, something that is getting increasingly challenging for me. I'm currently trying to teach myself SQL, and even the simplest tutorial examples take me forever because of typos caused by my poor motor skills. So an app like KOReader that lets me use a graphical interface to control how text appears without completely disregarding the CSS and without having to edit it is my ideal.

(Full disclosure: I haven't used it in years, and even then, not for long, because of the aforementioned rage-inducing behavior ).
I use a modded (I added series metadata, dictionary, a few additional settings, more fonts, and a few minor bugfixes) copy of Lithium on Android, and I'm pretty happy with it. I'm actually working on another mod for it to make it store locations with koboSpans so I can sync locations with my Kobo more easily.

I can send you the APK, but take a backup first since you'll lose the data (you need to uninstall it before updating), and sync uses a different API key.

Edit: Sent.
