The majority of my reading is Overdrive library books. As for purchased books, I don't know the numbers, but probably most of them were originally from sources other than Kobo.. I previously had Sony readers and purchased books from the Sony store (though most of those did get transferred to the Kobo store when Sony closed its store). Also have bought books from other stores such as Google and Books-a-million. I have family members who give me Google gift certificates for birthdays and Christmas. And I have a few free books from Gutenberg.

I sideload 100% of my books with Calibre via USB cable. If I buy a book from Kobo (in rare cases), I still download it, strip it, and back it up. Whenever I use the native overdrive, those books are usually saved as well for sideloading.

However, MobileRead forum users are a small niche and are not indicative of most e-reader users and their practices. Most other readers likely are content to buy from whomever their e-reader manufacturer is (B&N, Amazon, etc.). The questions are poorly posed.

Also, your poll is missing. You may want to fix that.

I transfer 100% of my ebooks to my reader through Calibre. I only buy or download books to my PC and into Calibre, and strip the DRM, so I'm certain they're all in one place, which makes it easy to avoid buying duplicates. Then they're all backed up on other drives as well for safekeeping.

Virtually all the books on my Kobos are sideloaded. The rare exception is when I am away from my computer and either borrow a library book or purchase and sync a book from Kobo. The library books are a does not matter to me and when I next access my computer, I download the Kobo book, copy it into calibre, do any metadata cleanup, editing, etc.

OTOH, virtually none of the Kobo users I know in real life do anything but sync library or Kobo purchased books.

And there does not seem to a poll in this thread.

I see no poll.

However, I'll answer your question:

A large percent.

I tried to add a poll and it didn't work.
Happy to add one if someone can give me a tip how it works.
I guess there will only be 10 options, one for each increment of 10%.

Additional advice/help:

Write down your question, then decide how many possibilities that you want your reader to respond to and write them down on a piece of paper so that you won't forget them. Then adjust that in the box. (I think the default is 4.)

Write your post, but do not worry about the poll - yet. Click submit and you'll be presented with the poll screen. Fill it in.

Submit.

(Another member can correct me if I've gotten something wrong... please!)

I think you may have to start a new thread, but I'm not certain about that aspect.

Hey Koboy, that's cool to know !

I remember there are advantages to kepub over standard epub, but I forget them!

Would anyone care to link me to something that elaborates em?!

Thanks all - I managed to get a poll up just by following the doc's instructions !
I must have navigated away prematurely last time and not seen the poll come up.
(or maybe you have to choose more options than the default?)

100%. I'm using syncthing and Koreader, so everything is synced at all times and I don't have to rely on Kobo for anything.

Problem is I can't find a way to automate it to the proper degree, as I use the following pipeline:
1. Load to Calibre to get metadata
2. Open Sigil to convert into ePub3, optimize for size, remove unused styles, and prettify HTML
3. Push to my server, so it's synced with all my devices
