As far as I am aware, K2PDFOPT is a Windows/MacOS offering. The latest version on a M1 Mac is fast.
k2pdfopt is also available from the author for x86 linux and there is a k2pdfopt package for the raspberry pi. It is also open source, but I have no idea whether it has been build for additional platforms.

May be fast on an M1 Mac, but the M1 Mac is going to be dead before too long because of the design of the M1 chip/memory/cache. It wears out the SSD much faster then it should. It's a disaster of a design.

You are extrapolating and being over dramatic.

That is a software and/or OS problem that has nothing to do with the CPU.

Just disable swap until the bug gets fixed.

I would also like to tell you something interesting:
I have a Kindle Paperwhite 4. On this I can read fewer pages of the same book on one charge (~ 35 hours reading time) than on my Likebook Ares Note in the Kindle app (~ 40 hours) - if I switch the device off in the meantime.
My Likebook Ares problem is likely to be in standby.
And the PW4 is more economical in power consumption than the Kobos.

And if you disable swap, you'll run out of memory or keep getting low memory warnings.

However, Apple can fix this for the release of the M2 chip.

Not at all. It's a major flaw in the M1 Macs.

Your claims are baseless. You (and I, and the majority of the rest of the world) have no clue :
- if the problem you mention is that bad,
- if it's a hardware or software issue

@Edit : I encourage you to do some research on the subject and read articles, no expert claims what you claim.

Nope. I've been doing it in linux for many years.

And, would you rather wear out the SSD than get a warning?
