I looked at the MArs, but for just a little more, you get the SD slot, and the ability to use it as an effective note-taker and pdf markup device (nice for chess puzzle solving).

My bad, looking at wrong thing. Mars has the 16gb built in + sd card too.
But Mars doesn't have Note-taking and pdf markup, which I would use. If I'm paying extra for an "ereader" upgrade, I'd rather it do the note-taking. Sun bug, no issue for me, as it's just an inside thing. I don't go mobile with my devices. |

Now just deciding if the extra cost is worth it to go Ares instead of Forma.
Much easier decision making, haha, as it's not based on "if" something can perform a task, just if it's worthb it to me (plus loosing the physical page turn buttons) |

Handwritten notes are pretty useless except to read on the same device. Mars does typed annotation or separate text via free Jota.
A BT keyboard I got for my 10" tablet works well. As does the 3.5mm audio jack and BT audio. |

Very cool to know.
I would be using the notes on the same device though. One big thing would be drawing chess moves on pdf books of chess puzzles. Markup for editing a story in bed. If the notes don't follow across devices, I could just look at my 8" device with notes while editing for finish on the chromebook (much like I would if I had handwritten on paper notes for revisions.) I'm just saying it's convenient, if I'm getting an eReader replacement/upgrade, t be able to have that note taking and perhaps replace the paper notes. I also like being able to have an idea at night, flip open the Reader and hand write out a story idea to come back to later. |

So, if I'm in gDocs on an Ares, and I scribble some handwritten notes on it, that will not transfer somehow if I pick up the work in gDocs on my Chromebook ?
Notes are then just for on that particular device, unless you save them separately as another document? |

Thanks. Really liked that video, but I've pretty much decided to move on. I think I would grow annoyed with shortcoming until a few things are ironed out.
I was looking at the Likebook Ares, but discovered they like to drain the battery prematurely. So, I may just be out of E-ink all together. I like my Kobo Libra but would like a bigger screen, though, doubt I want to spend $300 on a Forma when I could have gotten all the feautres of an Ares for a little more.... but that battery issues is a stumbling block. |

ok, i guess i got a completely wrong understanding of that the note-taking capabilities of these can do...
So, PDF markup is embedded - that is good ! I also saw side by side note taking on one side, and a book on the other. That still can be done right? And how are the notes saved? in association with where ion the book, or as separate files? No note taking in word processors? Kind of ruins the whole "editor" functionality I thought it had. PS- how bad is the battery drain? as in, no better than a regular android tablet? or closer to an e-ink ereader? |
