It did improve a lot, i used 3000Mah(original is 1200Mah) battery. But with that big of a battery(its 3mm thick vs the 1.7mm of the original) you cant put the back cover in place. So it can be used with a case to serve as a back cover, or 3d print a back cover that would have more height clearance for it to fit.

Its how the battery packs are marked, so if you want to find the right size battery thats how you search for it, with those numbers.

Each number explained - 17(1.7mm thick)80(80mm wide)98(98mm long)

Can this battery be used in the Kobo Aura One? - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303567469373

It does list the Aura as a compatible device but the size (dimensions) are smaller than the original battery. The one on AliExpress looks the same but outlines that it needs to be soldered together.

But they are all missing the connectors and the images outline that the battery needs to be soldered.

The aliexpress is the one that will fit, and yes, you would need to solder the pcb from the old one to it.

The ebay one is 285083, the 28 means its 2.8mm thick. So you wouldnt be able to put back the back cover, and the connector is different so you would still need to get the soldering iron out.

Is there any reason they don't sell the batteries with the connectors already fitted? It's a massive pain to also have to buy a soldering iron and solder the connectors to the new battery!

Batteries are not really meant to be user replaceable. So be happy its an option, as the alternative is ~$250 for a new 8" ereader.
Take it to an electronics repair shop if thats an issue for you, just the soldering shouldnt cost too much, and no risk that you screw something up if its your first time soldering.

Just strange since most battery replacements for other electronics have the battery with the cable connectors.

Not really strange. Kobo doesnt sell replacement batteries, and that battery is not made specifically for Aura One. What makes that battery a "Kobo Aura One Replacement Battery" is the size. Probably made with some other device in mind originally, or nothing in mind, just a size variant that happens to fit.
