I think you're right. I don't want to really mess things up and the only thing that doesn't work is deleting books which I can do through Calibre portable. Thanks for all of your help.

Also, Calibre 4.23 is compatible with your existing database. Put back 4.23 and your database problems will go away. |

I believe there's an environmental variable to disable hardware acceleration, which may help (though it may also break things worse). I don't remember what it is though. |

Resolved in Calibre 4.2.0
I hope you have by now resolved, but reading this 3d I've devised my own way and did it, so I report here, cause I had the same issue with Calibre 4.2.0 (downgraded from 5)
1 create an empty new library by copying the structure to and putting it in a different file from the original one 2 select all your books and copy them all into the new library 3 switch to the new empty library and, most important, close Calibre 4 reopen Calibre and you will find that you can delete all you need 5 now you can delete the old library and also all the files and the db contained in the old position For me it at worked spendidly! |

@Melba12
Users should not EVER copy book contents of one Library to another using the OS. (we call this 'messing under the skirts') Calibre (app) must make all changes to keep the DB in sync with the files stored. Very bad things can happen when this goes sideways. The one exception: If you copy the ENTIRE contents of the OLD Library folder, to a NEW EMPTY folder . To Move / Copy specific contents (selected books), use the builtin Copy to Library menu item. That even brings the Library version of the Metadata across. |
