On my core i7 system, after I started calibre it required around 7% of the processor for a minute or two, then fell to zero.

I get CPU spikes in Calibre (usually when doing tasks, occasionally just sitting in the background), but it never goes above 10%. The worker processes easily reach 100% though, and disk activity can get pretty high too.

I just installed version Windows 4.32 32 bit, sits on 0.0% with an occasional blip to 0.2% -- even if I start it with a 180,000 book library.

You might also want to try starting calibre in safe mode, badly behaved shell extensions can mess with other programs. I had one once that decided to send Sigil into lockdown, and that gave me the impetus to find an alternative (File Menu Tools).

I've had 7+ Taskbar Tweaker break drag and drop between applications after a Windows Update...including dragging anything into Calibre. Updated to the latest beta and it un-broke.

Microsoft PowerToys did break installing Calibre. That might be fixed by now.

Some AV software thinks Calibre is a threat. Any AV that thinks Calibre is a threat should be deleted.

So you can see that some software can and does mess with Calibre. Maybe something you are running is doing just that and causing the CPU usage to spike beyond what it should.

I use 7TT, it was the first new thing I installed when I got Win 7. Never had any problems with it, but its config options are complex and I haven't changed them for years - I love set and forget.

FTR: File Menu Tools is what I use now, the gadget that broke Sigil was CFI's Shelltoys - which went belly up during the GFC recession.

The blips might be Calibre polling for a 'connected device'.
Sometimes I plug in the device and Windows detects it, but Calibre can take a bit of time to start the job spinner

Hello, I screwed up my Calibre by entering this into my terminal: sudo -x /Applications/Kindle.app/Contents/MacOS/renderer-test

How do I fix this? Can I somehow remove the last thing I entered? I think the below is what you need to see. I was trying to use Caliber version 3.34 and I'm running OS 12.3.1.

You cannot use calibre 3 on calibre libraries that have been opened in calibre 5+.
