On my core i7 system, after I started calibre it required around 7% of the processor for a minute or two, then fell to zero.

I get CPU spikes in Calibre (usually when doing tasks, occasionally just sitting in the background), but it never goes above 10%. The worker processes easily reach 100% though, and disk activity can get pretty high too.

Let Calibre 4.23 run for a few minutes after the GUI shows up. Minimize it and use Task Manager to see the processor usage. If you find the processor usage is still at 10%, reboot and run Calibre 4.23 without running any thing else. If the processor usage still hits 10%, tell us what you run when the system starts,

I just installed version Windows 4.32 32 bit, sits on 0.0% with an occasional blip to 0.2% -- even if I start it with a 180,000 book library. You might also want to try starting calibre in safe mode, badly behaved shell extensions can mess with other programs. I had one once that decided to send Sigil into lockdown, and that gave me the impetus to find an alternative (File Menu Tools). BR |

Microsoft PowerToys did break installing Calibre. That might be fixed by now.
Some AV software thinks Calibre is a threat. Any AV that thinks Calibre is a threat should be deleted. So you can see that some software can and does mess with Calibre. Maybe something you are running is doing just that and causing the CPU usage to spike beyond what it should. |

FTR: File Menu Tools is what I use now, the gadget that broke Sigil was CFI's Shelltoys - which went belly up during the GFC recession. BR |

The blips might be Calibre polling for a 'connected device'.
Sometimes I plug in the device and Windows detects it, but Calibre can take a bit of time to start the job spinner |

Hello, I screwed up my Calibre by entering this into my terminal: sudo -x /Applications/Kindle.app/Contents/MacOS/renderer-test
How do I fix this? Can I somehow remove the last thing I entered? I think the below is what you need to see. I was trying to use Caliber version 3.34 and I'm running OS 12.3.1. version 3.34.0 ERROR: Unhandled exception: <b>SQLError</b>:SQLError: error in tokenizer constructor calibre 3.34 embedded-python: True is64bit: True Darwin-21.4.0-x86_64-i386-64bit Darwin ('64bit', '') ('Darwin', '21.4.0', 'Darwin Kernel Version 21.4.0: Fri Mar 18 00:45:05 PDT 2022; root:xnu-8020.101.4~15/RELEASE_X86_64') Python 2.7.12 OSX: ('10.16', ('', '', ''), 'x86_64') Interface language: None Successfully initialized third party plugins: DeDRM (10, 0, 2) Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/actions/delete.py", line 403, in delete_books File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/actions/delete.py", line 377, in do_library_delete File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/library/models.py", line 414, in delete_books_by_id File "site-packages/calibre/db/cache.py", line 63, in call_func_with_lock File "site-packages/calibre/db/cache.py", line 1624, in remove_books File "site-packages/calibre/db/backend.py", line 1644, in remove_books File "site-packages/calibre/db/backend.py", line 857, in executemany File "src/cursor.c", line 1136, in APSWCursor_executemany.sqlite3_prepare File "src/statementcache.c", line 386, in sqlite3_prepare SQLError: SQLError: error in tokenizer constructor |

You cannot use calibre 3 on calibre libraries that have been opened in calibre 5+.
