Irregular/very slow page turns (kepub)

That said, checking the video does lead me to some more (extremely not fun for you ^^) ideas:

* You appear to be using OpenDyslexic, try with a stock Serif font (that's Georgia on Kobo, IIRC?). It *may* be disagreeing with the font renderer a bit.

* You also appear to be using an old MiniClock version that does a crapload of refreshes, try without it, or with a current version from my tweaked branch. The unexpected extra refresh requests may coerce the kernel into waiting a bit to sort things out, delaying the actual useful refresh in the process.

Oh I know, it wasn't meant to help find out what's going on, it was just to illustrate how annoying it is. I suppose it'd be easier to compare with what I'm used to though, so here's a new video with two clips: one from 4.9.11311 and one from 4.24.15676.

1. Luckily I'm not dyslexic, just a slow reader who can read slightly faster with OpenDyslexic, so I definitely will try reading with a stock Serif font

2. Haha I was trying to avoid re-figuring out how upgrade the clock I'll give it a go.

However... why would both work fine in firmware 4.9 and not in 4.24?

Jokes aside, that's a lot of time between the two versions, and a lot of moving parts, so, it's either completely unrelated and *everything* was just plain faster before, or it's related and there's just more bad interactions visible *now* than before.

I played your 2nd video and turned pages in synch with you. My 4.24 speed seemed much more like your 4.9 speed than your 4.24 speed.

I used a ClaraHD with OpenDyslexic and NiLuJe's latest MiniClock version and tried 2 different books, a short one with short-ish chapters and a long one with longer chapters. The results were the same.

I'll confess to all my books having been edited to death to remove excess HTML/CSS cruft before they ever reach a Kobo device. Also page turning speed has never been a big concern of mine - fast enough's good enough.

Even if you wait 30+ seconds before you turn the page in synch with my second page turn in the video? Consistently? There's about 28 seconds cut off the beginning of both clips...

I've just uninstalled the MiniClock completely and will do some timeless reading in 4.24.15676. Lets see how frustrated I get.

Yes, I waited at least 60secs before starting the camera. I've attached a zipped .MP4 file. Excuse shaky camera work.

A while back I had slow page turn problems, also slow book opening, caused by a faulty custom hyphen dictionary.

Could this be the cause of your issues?

do i think slower kepub page turns are the fault of the latest firmware? no. do i think older Kobo ereaders like mine having less RAM/slower hardware in general is a far more likely cause? yes.

It might be worth pursuing that line, though, if you have time. It's an obvious point of difference between your test and mine. I only have English books, hence an English hyphenation dictionary was in use. If you also read English books sometimes, try one of those.
