The backlight, like mentioned are your standard e-ink with built in led.
The front light, is more like a Sony PRS-700 with front light, or popup light (a bulb right above the screen, or a click on magnifying glass with led.
Natural light is no back/front light, and only using environment light, like a spot, room light, night light, or open curtain windows shining daylight into the room.
Ok, that isn't the normal definition of "backlight" but it works well enough now that you've defined it.

I do think that your front light (external to screen) and your natural light are basically the same since you include a "spot" light as an option for natural light. This could be anything from a dedicated reading light to no lights at all to daylight. Too much range to be useful. The position of the light is so variable even in your examples that it really doesn't seem like it can be generalized.

Backlight with EInk is impossible because the EInk layer is impermeable to light.
Each EInk device can only have a frontlight.
And the only difference to an outside lamp is that the reader frame remains unlit.

I mean, backlighting an eInk screen can be done, but it's a waste of LEDs, wastes battery, potentially requires additional thickness to put the lights shining at the back of the screen in, potentially generates excess heat that has to be dealt with, etc, because it's not like the lighting would actually be useful because opaque screen

Of course you can also try to shine through a thick wall - but you will have little success.
It's the same with backlight at EInk.
