Didn't Kobo recently change how images were handled in KePubs?

It seems that the UK and US editions of the book have different drawings. Anyway, opening the book on Kindle devices keeps the size of the images at about the same proportion of the page as looking at the sample on Amazon with my PC. While on the Libra the images go almost from margin to margin. I didn't notice a change when altering font size, but I've refunded the book now so can't test it further (for some reason the Kobo store doesn't have a preview for this book?).

It's not a huge deal, the images that are too big to fit on a page are more annoying, since those lead to an extra page that has nothing but the bottom of the image.

What firmware version are you running? Maybe you need an update. I've never heard of the problems you are having that cannot be explained. I've explained what you are seeing with The Way of the Kings with the chapter header graphics.

Oh and are you reading ePub or KePub?

Latest firmware. 4.24.15676.

The blurry header images in Way of Kings aren't as annoying as the maps and sketches that don't fit on one page.

And the format is whatever format the preview from the store is in. I suppose it's possible that buying the full book would be different, I don't really know how that works. The images in the sample are bad enough that I just bought it on the Kindle instead.

For what it's worth, one of the other books with poor images (The Last Samurai) was from Overdrive, so I assume that one is epub.

Did you sync any of these eBooks to your Kobo? Was ADE used to download any of there eBooks?

These books were downloaded directly from the Kobo store and integrated Overdrive, using the Kobo itself. They weren't transferred from PC.

If you synced it to your Kobo, it would be fulfilled by the Kobo store and be in kepub format. If you downloaded it using ADE, it would be in epub.

Thanks, in that case it must be kepub.

I have The Way of the Kings. I'll convert it to KePub an load it on my H2O and see what happens.

So as a test, I got the epub version of The Last Samurai from Overdrive on my PC and put it on the Kobo using ADE. The image in the epub version displays much smaller than the bad kepub one, even smaller than the Kindle version in fact.

The slower page turns of the epub version are a little annoying though. I've been spoiled by how fast the Oasis 3 is.

This is a big difference between Epub and Kobo Kepub handling of images.

Epubs display the images exactly as they are formatted in the document. so if you have a book that has images larger than your screen, but no css formatting to resize the image, it will extend past the boundaries of the screen.

Kepub, on the other hand, will re-format single images into a image viewing window, completely disregarding the book formatting. (Kindles will do something similar, automatically shrinking oversize images to fit to screen.)

The behaviour described here seems opposite of that, so I'm not too sure what exactly is causing the issue.

You edit the book to express image width/height in % or similar. I.e., instead of using:
width: 800px;
height: 1200px;

You could use:
width: 75%;
height: auto;

Swap which is using auto depending on which dimension is more critical.

Unfortunately some people are still formatting images as if mobi where absolute sizing was the only supported method was the destination format.
