Travelling and working in the oil business I get approached a lot with the 'what's that' question. Travelling, especially on helicopters, is very weight restrictive and when I tell them 100 books in memory is no problem that usually clinches the deal. I have probably sold 4 or 5 readers for Sony.

Traveling as I do on the London Underground, I often find fellow travelers looking with interest as I read. In the rush hour, it is unusual for tube passengers to talk to each other.
I have however occasionally been approached when the carriage is less crowded, by curious passengers. I then eagerly extol the virtues of my Sony Reader, and often suggest that they come and check this forum for more information. I often sound like a sales person for Sony and e readers in general.
Wish I could claim some commission for the possible sales I have caused!

I know Had to respond somehow though, right? ha ha.

I remember when I bought mine they gave me a bunch of cards to hand out to people who wanted to learn more about it. It would be cool if they put some kind of referral codes on them so we could get some kind of coupons for the ebookstore, I think.

Which lines do you travel on? I've only ever seen one other person with one, and it didn't look like a Sony...

On the other hand, I get so involved with what I'm reading that I possibly wouldn't notice if the entire carriage had them. Or was on fire.

I've definitely 'sold' a few. Gave one to my sister for her b-day a few months back, and she said at least 5 people have bought one after seeing hers. Plus I met a nice guy on a flight a couple of days ago who knew about the Reader but had never seen one. I gave him an overview of the features, performance ("2-3 weeks of battery life??!?!?!") and book sources, etc. He said he'd definitely buy one. I gave him the mobileread url to cover anymore info he might want! Plus, I have demo'd the Reader many times to people who ask while I'm commuting. I'll bet a few of them have bought one too.

A few weeks ago on the train I was happily reading to myself (that makes it sound like I occasionally read out loud - I don't) Just before the train pulled into the station, I put the reader away. As soon as I had done, the bloke sitting opposite me grabbed my attention (I was also listening to my Ipod). He was curious as to what the reader was like. I told him how much I loved it yada yada yada. If I hadn't been about to get off the train I would have shown him what it was like.

He then started to tell me that he had started buying smaller books due to the weight. Since it was nearly christmas, he did want to buy himself a gift.

I may not have sold him the idea but I certainly gave him something to think about
