Hmm, @BetterRed's suggestion seemed to work earlier, but it doesn't seem to be now. Not sure what's going on.

Ok, I've figured out my personal problem. The problem child seems to be Checkpoints. I’ve always had it as a second tab with File Browser on the left-hand side, and sized to the smallest width. While rearranging my editor window, I noticed that if I don't have Checkpoints as a tab, all my windows stay as I place them. I tested this out at least five times and my widths stay as I want them up until I put Checkpoints back as my second tab with File Browser. Then that section goes wider, which pushes the other two over to the right, and ends up with the preview pane very narrow.
Not sure why this is being buggy all of a sudden, but it is. For me, at least! |

Ah this will be a change in Qt 5.15.1 its likely that the tab bar is reserving space for itself preventing the panel from becoming narrower

@MerlinMama,
You're not on your own. I'm using Windows 10 64bit and I also cannot get calibre v5.3 to save my Editor layout. I also have an installed copy of calibre v4.23 32-bit installed and the Editor's layout is saved correctly in that. I used the 'calibre-debug -t' method to open the Editor for both tests. I normally have both 'Live CSS' and 'Checkpoints' (as 2 tabs) docked at the bottom left position and 'Checkbook' docked at bottom right. With this set up the layout splitter widths/heights are not saved correctly. If I use the View menu item to uncheck both 'Live CSS' and 'Checkpoints', 'Checkbook' now fills the whole bottom row and the layout splitter widths/height seem to be save correctly again. So, I don't know whether the problem is with 'Live CSS' and/or 'Checkpoints' or the bottom left docking area in general ... or something else entirely. ETA: @Kovid, I hadn't seen your new post before I posted this Last edited by jackie_w; 10-17-2020 at 10:35 AM. Reason: ETA |
