But with room for a better battery, maybe we would not have to carry an external battery.

True, it's admittedly a lame workaround.

Yes of course.

However, a 3000 mAh battery (Note Air) lasts about 2/3 the time of a 4300 (Note 2) - with approximately the same use.
And if the latter lasts 3 weeks, then the former can do 2.

By the way: with the Poke 2 (1500 mAh) you can read for about 50 hours.

With a thickness of 5.8 mm and a 3000 mAh battery, an external battery is hardly necessary.

But that's not what Apple uses. They use a lot smaller capacity batteries in the iPhones.

What are we talking about, phones, tablets, computers, laptops, cell phones, ... From the OP, it sounded like the discussion was about ereaders, and eink in particular was mentioned. I have no problem with thin eink readers. Either they are ergonomically designed to be held from the side, or they have a bezel that is big enough.

If we are talking about phones, phones aren't too thin. I had an iphone SE and it wasn't too thin. And my current phone isn't too thin. And battery life is just fine in both and I wouldn't mind a little less batter [sic](so I guess you were wrong, I can say it).

IMPE and IMO.

Wait...what Oasis is the same thickness all the way across?? I had the first one, and have both the Oasis 2 and 3 right now, and they *both* have a thick part where the buttons are, and the rest of it is very thin. It's meant to be held on the thick side, and if you switch hands, you flip the reader upside down, with the screen orientation changing automatically. Are you sure you have an Oasis 2? If you do, maybe the cover that it's in is evening out the back so that it's the same thickness all the way across.

You are right. Mine has been inside the Fintie easel case for so long I forgot it was thicker by the buttons and inside the case it appears even all the way across. It's the latest model Oasis. I'm just thankful to be rid of the mandatory Amazon case with the battery in the case.

I'd rather the Libra was twice as thick due to PCB being UNDER the screen. Then it would actually fit in almost all jacket pockets and smaller bags. It could then be 124mm wide instead of 143mm wide, approximately.

Any thinner than 9mm is pointless and 12mm is fine. This has been studied,

The Super Thin laptops, phones, tablets and TV edges are stupid marketing.
On TVs it means no decent sound without external speakers, yet most can only use an expensive amp, no simple speaker socket costing 40c that disconnects internal speaker no better than a laptop one.

I do agree that making a device too thin means giving up something. Apple gave up the headphone jack on the iPhone, TVs give up speaker quality, Readers give up being easy to hold without a case. The thing is, for a lot of people, too thin means not easy to hold be it a reader, phone, etc.

And making device too thick means giving up something. TVs were extremely bulky and heavy, readers were too bulky to care conveniently, they were too heavy for extended periods of reading while holding.

The thing is, for many, too thick means not easy to hold be it a reader, phone, tablet, laptop, ...

Let them make things thinner until they are too thin. For many things, we aren't there yet.

Lets not make anything too thin. Let's find the sweet spot and stick with that. And if hat means making some things thicker to get to the sweet spot, so be it.

I’m with you on battery life and other practical considerations such as audio jacks. Unfortunately, sweet spots vary by invidual in terms of ergonomics. I’ve got small hands and absent the practical issues, thinner is better.

My wife has psoriatic arthritis and weight is a major concern for her. Not so much for me since I carry a Surface Pro and they are heavy.
