Ok--be aware, though, that neither Kobo nor Calibre allow global text search through your library. I'm not sure how important that is to you?

Really? I'd not noticed. With 1000+ or more books you'd not want to do that anyway!

Not quite true anymore. There is a Calibre plugin that allows a global text search of the Calibre library.

Thanks, all, for your advice and information. It sounds like Kobo is the way to go for greatest present and (possibly) future functionality. Leaning toward the Libra at present as it seems to balance price and function, but I'd be glad for alternative views on this if there are any!

Thanks again!

You won't get an alternative view from me, sorry - I feel the bolded bit nicely sums up why I went with a Libra. A decision I do not regret, especially now that Kobo's core English dictionary is at least as good as, and (according to some) arguably better than, Kindle's.

So there is! Nice! It looks like you have to either set up an account with Elastic Search or install and configure an Elastic Search server on your PC. It seems that once the initial index is done, the searches are fast, though...at least with the server running locally. I only read the first few pages of the linked thread--has anyone tried using the plugin with the server *not* running locally? (I'm wondering how long the initial index took, and how long subsequent searches take using the remote server vs local)

I went the local route, setting up ElasticSearch was straightforward as there's am msi option now. I figured it would be faster than 'offshoring' the indexing and searching

I saw that mentioned in the thread, but where is it? I went to Elastic Search's website and downloaded the zip file, but I don't see an msi anywhere, and I don't see it mentioned in the read me file?

Never mind...I found it. I notice that it installs something called "x-pack security" automatically when you use the msi.
