And even that is doubtful as 95% of the code used is actually in the built-in KoboTouch driver. Nearly all of the extra code acts on file on your computer before they are sent to the device.
Sorry if I offended you.

I cannot share what I do not know.

What I do know is that I installed several (4-5) different Kobo plugins via Calibre. Did not spend too much time looking at what they are for or how they work (or if they work). I just thought they were created to do good things - so I should install them too in case I need their features (whatever those features as) as I learn about Kobo, Calibre etc.

Then, I was unable to transfer more than 10 books at a time.

So removed them all and now it works perfectly. (As I did not take screnshots etc. I honestly dont know which plugins they were - all I know they were for Kobo)

That is all I know.

So far have not done further experiments...

Not sure which part of the above is bullshit - I am just sharing my experience.

The problem is that you show no real evidence of what you happened. There are occasional issues. And there are device specific issues. My Glo HD will not work with the laptop I am using now. It connects, and I can look at the file system with no issues. But, start calibre, and I quickly get an error. Or if I manually copy files to or from it. Plug it into an older laptop I have here, and it works perfectly. All my other Kobo devices work perfectly with both laptops.

The other problem is that the message "Error communicating with device" covers a lot of things. Pressing the details button on the dialog gives a lot more information that can be used to work out exactly what went wrong. It could be a problem with the device. It could be your virus protection interfering. It could be an error in the book. And, if you installed all the Kobo related plugins, you were probably using the KoboTouchExtended driver which can produce that error when the book contains errors. The built-in KoboTouch driver doesn't change the books in the same way, so won't detect problems. But, you probably will see them when reading. Or worse, won't notice that chunks of text are missing. And it could have been caused by user error.

My problem is that your justification of the cause of the error is terrible. And if you are spouting off about it without any real proof, it doesn't help anyone. And supplying the real details of failure means that someone can try to work out how to fix it.

As far as I can tell, there are 3 Kobo specific plugins for calibre. I have all three of them (KoboUtilities, KoboTouchExtended and Kobo Books) installed though I only use two of them.

Yes, you can have issues with them such as setting a specific device and then wondering why the configuration for that device is not working for all your Kobo ereaders or the well documented issues with the KoboTouchExtended driver a few months back.

I have used Kobo ereaders since the original non-WiFi unit and have had issues with some USB ports over the decade but nothing that matches what you had happening to you. That is why it would have been nice if you were able to give specifics of your system setup, installed software, etc. As it is, you've given the equivalent of asking an auto shop to diagnose your vehicle based on "it makes a funny noise once in a while".

If the problem is a plugin as you say, reinstall the plugins one at a time until you get the error again. Then uninstall the last one and if you don't get the error, tell us which plugins you installed in what order and which one you removed that fixed the problem.

If you can give detail information, maybe someone can duplicate the problem.
