It's working fine now. The new EPUB after conversion from Original EPUB saved all my formatting in CSS, so I no longer need to go into CSS to make changes, hence no more problem finding the updated file in Calibre Library. Thanks, davidfor!

Since you are having to convert your ePub to ePub, then you have something wrong. Go back to the original and start over because your process is all wrong and you need to know how to do it correctly.

Why are you converting to the same format AFTER a touch-up edit???

If done normally (no inline (style=...), the book should be ready to go (in that format: EPUB).
Additional conversion, just introduces more change.

Embed Metadata or Polish will update Covers and metadata ONLY, unlike conversion which touches the entire book.

It's all good now. Thanks for all your help! I started from a Quark document, to a pdf file, which was used for publishing in print, to the EPUB file. So the first EPUB conversion lost a bunch of formats here and there. It took me a whole week to straighten them out, so I'm unlikely to start from scratch. Anyway, I'm all set. Thanks again.
