Or alternatively, we might want to think about moving the "Generate a new ToC from Headings" to the Edit ToC dialog and steal its icon as un_pogaz suggested, but that might really confuse long term users. So perhaps a new icon for "Edit ToC" might be more appropriate. Of course any new icon would have to work with both Light and Dark modes at the same time, be consistent with what we have now, and be contributed to Sigil to prevent license issues. Any thoughts? |

Yes something like that would work. Is it a SVG file? If not, we would need a 16x16px, 22x22px and 48x48px set of png files.
Thanks, KevinH |

Here the 16px and the 22px (the 48px is the first)
No it's not a SVG, I used/edit the images already in Sigil (arrow of "format-indent-more" and mirrored "generate-toc") Last edited by un_pogaz; 08-24-2020 at 11:39 AM. |

Okay, just pushed adding the Edit TOC icon to the Toolbar right after the Generate TOC icon. So this change will appear in the next release

Thank un_pogaz for reducing the OP down to a common sense change, backed up with solid reasoning and for supplying the necessary icons in the right format and sizes that are consistent with our current icons. He/she really did most of the work.
My changes amounted to only a few lines of xml code in the main.ui file and updating the MainWindow to add in all the appropriate icon sizes. But given the change made sense, would not interfere with current users, and follows on other changes that would already make people need to use the View->Toolbars and some drag and dropping for the next release, it was a no brainer. |

Yup, I agree with that.

I have tested several ePub software.
I remember that Kotobee Author has a weird merge between "Book View" and "Edit TOC". Here is a demonstration video: https://youtu.be/WfN-44WRYUw Each chapter and sub-chapter are individual XHTML, organized according to the final result and order in the ToC. It's not silly because 1) it's intuitive 2) It's the desired result in 90% of the books. Obviously, it lacks granularity, and when you know how to use Sigil's "automatic ToC generator", you get much better results. (But don't judge it too quickly, I just reinstalled the Kotobee for the occasion, so I certainly didn't use it to the fullest) Last edited by un_pogaz; 08-29-2020 at 03:04 AM. |

Then Kovid 1 upped that with the TOC edit in his Editor (also available as a Plugin from the main UI). It offers additional methods, some can be used to suplement the basic 'from headers'. So my basic Q: Why not just use the tool that fits the individual job? |

In Sigil, you can use different heading styles and you can make the TOC as granular as your little heart desires. I don't think I follow what's meant by, each heading and subheading is "their own XHTML," ?, but... Why is this Kotobee so superior? What does that do that the Book Browser doesn't, if you remotely use it correctly, esp. when coupled with the TOC-maker? Is it simply that it's pretty? I'm not being an ass (at least, not any more than usual), I'm seriously asking. Hitch |
