I have run into this issue as well.

I am now in the habit of opening Mobipocket on my main computer and checking every new book after download. If the cover, or other information is missing, I can often add it with Right-click > Get eBook information. That usually does the trick.

I also change the title of all of my books to Author-Title using mobi2mobi. That gives me a last chance to see if the cover will show up. If it does not, you can add the cover using mobi2mobi.

I hope this helps!

Hello Maggie!

I buy all my e-books from Fictionwise as well. But since I have a Mac, it is impossible for me to use Mobipocket reader and synchronize my Cybook. Mobipocket reader is still not available for Mac OS.

All my e-books are downloaded directly to my SD card and all the covers are present and accounted for...

From that, I humbly suggest that maybe the culprit is Mobipocket reader... But I have been wrong before...

Happy New-Year,

Georges

As for my sig, I'd love to get my wife a new 505, but money is a bit tight at present. So if I can get a free BeBook, that would do for now.

Some eBooks don't have a proper cover with them. This applies to all the different formats. You've just been lucky so far. What I do when I convert from Mobipocket or MS Reader and there is no proper cover, I find a good looking cover someplace and use that with Cslibre or Book Designer to put in the cover.

I think that the Mobipocket Reader requires a thumbnail or at least a correct header entry that points to the image for the cover to work. The Cybook does not require that and will take the first image as cover image if the pointers to cover image or thumb nail image is missing. Since there is no public specification of the MobiPocket format it is impossible to know if one of these behaviour is wrong.

The Windows Mobi Reader will use a thumbnail image if one is present, but it doesn't seem to require one. The Mobi books that I create only have a full-sized cover, and they show up with a cover image OK in the Windows Mobi library.

I just tried extracting cover and thumbnail from your recently updated "Richard Hannay Omnibus" with mobiperl, I got two files (cover: 400x600, thumbnail: 160x240). I'd say mobicreator (or whatever) is generating the thumbnail automatically.

Mag.
I have the same problem with some books from Fictionwise - for example the Vorkosigan series of books by Lois McMaster Bujold. What books are you having problems with? Is it a series of books from around the same time and by the same publisher?

The books also don't show the author's name.

Regards, Alex

You are not having a problem with the covers. Some eBooks just don't use a proper cover and you just have to deal sometimes. These being Mobipocket eBooks you can find covers on the net and use mobi2mobi to change the covers.
