Under Note it says:

"If you are using Windows 7 or Vista please, use calibre 3.48, which works with all Windows 7/Vista machines, from here (this word is a link - BookCat). Simply un-install calibre and install 3.48, doing so will not affect your books/settings."
The reason the note is there is because in some cases, Windows 7 is running on hardware that doesn't have an updated enough video driver. But as was posted in the post above, 4.20 can work on Windows 7. You just have to try it before settling with 3.84. The problem is that 3.48 doesn't support some newer hardware and some plugins will no longer work because the minimum version is past 3.48.

My Windows 7 is also 64 bit, but it's on a fairly old laptop - I think I bought it approx 2010 to replace and XP with a dodgy hardrive. So the hardware is probably too old to run the later version of Calibre.

You won't know if Calibre 4.20 works or not unless you try it. Nothing will go wring by trying it. If it doesn't work, you just uninstall it and install 3.48.

Also, if your laptop has two video cards, you can try both of them to see if 4.20 work. Someone on the forum had a problem running some version Calibre 4 and the solution was to use the other video card for Calibre.
