The beta driver will replace the old driver when it is installed. I think the beta reports as being version 3.2.9.

Hello everybody.

Tomorrow I plan to run the beta driver to fix the weird line breaks and text size changes in several of my ebooks.
Now I have a related question. I was wondering what is the fastest way to detect which books in my library have these formatting issues? I hope I don't have to open each book one by one. It would be tedious with more than a lot of books.. But if there's no quick way of finding out which books have these issues, I guess the best thing to do is to delete all the books from my Kobo reader and then just re-add them with the beta driver, right?

The only way to do it is to open the books and inspect them. But, it will only be affecting books sent to the device or converted using one of the recent releases of the plugins. I don't know exactly which version, but, at the oldest possible it was 3.2.2. That was released on 2020-05-10. Anything done before that will be OK. I don't expect that the problem will be in all books. Just read and fix them when you see them.

I agree with David.
The CODE (EPUB) appeared correct. The issue was KEPUB on the device (code for that copy was never shown)

So, all you will need to do is replace the device copy (which will probably be a delete from device, Send it again using the new driver. You may /will lose your reading position. make notes

You're right, davidFor. Here's the kepub version in the calibre viewer.

I've attached the same chapter from the Kepub. It ends in ".zip", but the real extension is ".xhtml". So please simply remove ".zip" from the filename.

Thanks, I see you have a newer beta in https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...&postcount=354. When I added it to my Calibre, it registers as 3.2.10

I installed the KePub Output driver.
I removed the badly formatted kepub from my Kobo device.

I then sent the epub from Calibre library to my Kobo.
Unfortunately, when I view the kepub in the calibre viewer, the formatting is still as messed up as before.

Are you sure I don't have to disable KoboTouchExtended as a whole, or turn off some options in it?
Update: Even when I disabled KTE, the kepub in the Kobo reader is still messed up.

If you have a kepub version of the book in your calibre library, the extended driver doesn't do anything. And, assuming you have matching versions of the output plugin and extended driver, they will probably have the same problem with this.

I need to see the original source. From what you posted, I can see why the book looks like it does, but, I can't see how it got that way. I need the epub source to be able to work that out.

The suggestion was to install KTE 3.2.9 and not KePub Output (I'm not sure if the KePub Output beta driver has the fix for the odd regex). The KePub Output driver converts the book to kepub and saves it in your calibre library as filename.kepub in the same directory as the source epub. If the send formats list has epub higher than kepub, the epub will be sent not the kepub. If sent using KTE with the extended options enabled, the epub will be converted to kepub on the fly. Of course, if kepub is above epub in the list, the above becomes moot.

if the junk code is in the source epub ( as per post#1) , of the thread, it makes more sense to regex it out, rather that expect kepub outputs to somehow work around it.

there is no need for hundreds of <a .. page_ID... > fragments
if its simple fiction - no footnotes needed - i use a standard regex line to wipe out all anchors, when polishing a book

Looking at it, the code has the same issue with the added </p> and <p> tags as was seen with the <br /> tags discussed in the KTE forum except that this one also duplicates the <a id="pagexx"> tag.

Code:
<p class="indent"><span class="koboSpan" id="kobo.20.1">“What’s that noise?” </span><span class="koboSpan" id="kobo.20.2">said Lucy suddenly. </span><span class="koboSpan" id="kobo.20.3">It was </span><a id="page5"></a></p><a id="page5">[/B]<span class="koboSpan" id="kobo.22.1">a far larger house than she had ever been in before and the thought of all those long passages and rows of doors leading into empty rooms was beginning to </span><span class="koboSpan" id="kobo.22.2">make her feel a little creepy.</span><p></p>

Rereading this, did you reconvert the epub to kepub before sending it to the device? I did a conversion of the snippet in the first post with the beta I posted. This converted correctly without any extra paragraphs added.

Sorry, I confused you (and your KTE suggestion) with DavidFor (and his KePub output suggestion).

I went to your link (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...postcount=2106) and installed the attached file ("KoboTouchExtended-beta.zip") on my Linux Calibre. But it shows up as 3.2.7. (This is the case even after I delete the 3.2.7 and load up your beta zip file).
Update: I loaded the beta zip on a Windows computer and it registers as 3.2.9.
Both Windows and Linux calibre programs are version 4.18.0.

What should I do now? My calibre library is on my linux computer. On my linux computer, where it says 3.2.7, is it really 3.2.9, but just with the wrong (3.2.7) version number?

Hi DavidFor,
In my calibre library, I usually don't have kepub versions. The kepubs are only on my Kobo Forma. When I "send a book to the device", an epub or AZW or HTMLZ is converted on the fly to kepub and sent to my Kobo.
I private-messaged you a link to the original source.

In that case you have been giving mixed messages. The discussion has included both the Kepub Output plugin and the extended driver. From memory, the mention of the output plugin was because you showed screenshots of the kepub opened with the calibre viewer. That usually means someone has the kepub in the library.

In any case, I have used beta's of both the extended driver and the output plugin on the copy of the book you sent me. Both produced the correct results. No unexpected paragraph breaks or font changes. If you are still seeing them, it means you either haven't installed the correct beta of the driver (version 3.2.9 or 3.2.10) or beta plugin (version 3.2.10), or you haven't run the book through them. Check that you have done both of these. If you have, and it is still happening, please send me the kepub version of the book to look at.
