Yeah, who knows. It is a good thing that once a book is downloaded, the internet can go to hell until the next book. Real advantage over any streaming activities.

I read several books a week as well, but don't leave the Wi-fi on because of battery and speed. A large majority of my books are already owned and waiting to be read so I don't need to download each one. Your husband may not have the same issue if he rarely loads a new book or uses his device.

Just an update. This doesn't mean anything officially tech-wise, but I have been leaving Wi-fi on for extended periods before downloading lately. That has helped this downloading bug. I do not leave my Wi-Fi on much, but will start doing so more to help with the dependability and "health" of the device. It seems to act up less when I use Wi-Fi more; at least, that's what my experience has been showing me since starting this thread.

My advice is to not leave wi fii on if You don't need it.

I had a problem: I left my Home for 2 days (unusually without my Kindle) and when I come back my Papewhite (7 gen) had the battery at zero. My internet provider had a fault and the Kindle reached the wi fii but, of course, couldn't go to Amazon's server, it tried again ecc until the battery was at zero.

I tried to resuscitate my Kindle by attaching it to the power outlet but nothing. Then I called Amazon's customer service, they told me to do it again and it worked.

Yeah, I don't in general. A lot of time is spent outside the house with it where no Wi-Fi is available anyway, so leaving Airplane mode off during this time would mean it would keep searching or using battery. No point in that.

Do you get bothered by Amazon downloading blank covers for any side loaded eBooks?

I use "List" mode, and rarely notice book covers. The times I've changed the view when playing with Settings, I've never notice an issue with book covers. It wouldn't bug me if it did happen, what the cover may be isn't important to me.

It's interesting how different we all are. I'm a cover hound and if I had the cover bug issue, it would bug me endlessly. Thankfully this is one small bug I don't have.
