The nicer display for ePub is why I don't read KePub much.

How small does line height have to be to trigger that ?
I usually remove all explicit line height declarations anyway and use device settings for that
Maybe that is why I have yet to see that bug after reading 100+ kepub

The widows and orphans override is good to know but I shall continue to set a value of 1, as I don't always read on the kobo, but I like consistency across devices

I use MinionPro most of the time. The problem kicks in for me if I reduce the line spacing value below 0.86 on the device. It's quite possible that this "threshold" number varies by font.

Just to confuse the issue I don't believe a Kobo device setting of 0.86 is the same as explicitly setting line-height:0.86 in a book's CSS file.

I think you would need to have enabled one of the kobopatch line spacing patches to ever have seen the problem in kepubs because the minimum default value on an unpatched device is 1.0 (I think).

Clear as mud?

Just be aware: you are asking a technical question with a technical answer. If you don't have a Kobo yet, the answers are likely to overwhelm you with a bunch of unfamiliar jargon.

The possibility of large gaps at the bottom of the page is there. But it is fixable. In multiple ways. My advice would be to get a Kobo. Then you can learn about ePubs or kepubs, patching, line height and soforth as you go.

Thank you everyone for your help. I purchased the forma and just received it in the mail today. I am so happy with it!! I expected it to be much slower and less sharp since I saw that from friends old ebook reader.

Now I wish to try to patch it, mainly to remove the slide to unlock feature.
However i am not sure if i need to use a specific patch, or should I just use the newest one from here?

The alternative to a patch is a sleep/wake cover. Which also adds protection to an expensive but fragile item.
I never have to "slide to unlock", or touch the power button. I just open and close the cover

I agree about the sleep cover. I have one for my H2O. It does four useful things.

1. Puts the H2O to sleep or wakes it up
2. Makes te H2O easier to hold
3. Protects the H2O
4. Looks good

You can use kobopatch to disable 'slide to unlock' but you don't have to.

You can achieve the same result by manually editing your .kobo/Kobo/Kobo eReader.conf config file (with a good text editor) by adding the following line to the [PowerOptions] section already in there.
Code:
UnlockEnabled=false
The mod should survive future firmware updates without needing to reapply it.

ETA: You may need to reboot after editing so that the updated config is read.

The Forma has a plastic substrate, doesn't it? So is it really fragile?

The substrate is plastic. However much of the sandwich that makes up the display/touch screen is glass.

I don't recall seeing (m)any posts of a broken screen, while I have seen posts of broken substrates. Makes me wonder how fragile Formas are.

My mother has a Forma (no cover) and she is rather careless with it, and yet no broken reader.

It has been generally assumed that the plastic substrate in the Forma is less fragile. If there is glass elsewhere, it probably means the failure is different. I don't think I've seen the fracturing of the image on the screen due to the substrate being broken that we have seen on the other devices.

I agree. And I don't think I've seen any broken glass screens for a Forma.

Fragile, less fragile, more fragile, ... For me the Forma is tough enough that I don't need a cover. YMMV.

Like I said, my mother is rather careless. She has sat on it. No broken screen.

However, don't put a cigarette on the bezel; it will melt.
