Cover attached via magnets so not locked into exact position on the reader apparently. This is one of the few Kindles I do not have along with the PW1 and early Kindle Basics.

The original Amazon design magnetic attaching cover for the Oasis G9 was another disaster per buyer reviews. Not secure on the reader and did not fully cover the reader metal back. Expensive too. Provided minimal drop protection. I have that cover and replaced it almost immediately.
I think this is really a matter of opinion.

I had three different Oasis 1. All of them worked perfectly. I still have one and I love it, I use it to read in bed, because it is almost weightless without the battery cover. If you take in consideration the battery time added by the cover, it is nothing less than impressive. It outlasts by far the Oasis 2. And if you have some extra battery covers, you can go months without ever having to charge the device.

I am also a huge fan of the half covers available for the Oasis 2. Actually, although I really wanted the warm light feature, I decided to keep the Oasis 2 instead of buying the O3 because the half covers do not work anymore on the O3. I am really fond of the Amazon merlot half cover. I had one Ayotu half cover, but it lacks the ability to allow the device to stand by itself. So in my opinion the amazon half cover was the best cover I ever used for the O2.
