Yeah, I know. Prices appear to be coming down on the 5, though. So, I might pull the trigger in a couple of months. My only concern about the 6 is that it will probably have face recognition, which I hate on my Pro 11".

With Apple, it is always a crap shoot as to whether or when they might update the iPad mini again. |

You have to check the Apple refurbished site everyday. It does tend to fluctuate depending on availability. I was able to get my refurbished 64GB mini 5 for $329 a little over a week ago. But it had not been available at any price a few days prior to that. I would have definitely preferred a brand new one for that price, but on the other hand it came with the same warrantee as a new one, and chances are if it is a bad device it will break long before the warrantee expires. But with companies like Best Buy getting desperate to make sales, I bet there will be some good deals. Once the country reopens for business though, all bets are off. It could go either way on prices.

Other than size/weight, is there a difference between reading on the iPad mini 5 compared to a larger iPad? I have the iPad Pro 10.5 as a point of comparison.

My main reason for liking the mini 5 as a reading device is the size and weight. I’ve got severe arthritis in my hands, and elsewhere, so lighter weight is critical for me. Personally, I also prefer the smaller screen as well because it just seems more natural as a reading size than my Pro 9.7. Both of those reasons are personal opinions and YMMV of course. |

I have the 11" pro as well as my mini 5. Pixels don't make a difference to me, but size and weight make all the difference. I got the 11" to read pdfs on, but it is so large and heavy I almost never use it - I can get by with the mini by using landscape - also landscape really helps with epub on my mini as I'm a fast reader. I only want an android version because I prefer the reading apps on it vs the mini.

Thanks for your input. The size and weight of the iPad Mini are definitely better for reading for any length of time. I get the impression that, as far as a display goes, I'd notice little if any difference between my Pro and the Mini. If I like one, I'll like the other.
That's what I needed to know. Thanks! |

ePubs require different apps, none of which seem to stick around that long on the iPad platform, nor have as reliable and effortless multi-device syncing as the Kindle apps. But I do think Android has better ePub apps available than are available on iPads. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be many higher resolution Android tablets these days, especially in small footprints, plus I personally never cared for Android nor the company that owns it. I simply don’t trust either Android or Google. But to each their own. |

for iOS, there is the Adobe Digital Editions app. this will handle DRM & DRM-free epub books as well as PDFs. i would assume that this ISN'T one of those epub readers that won't stick around, given the big name of Adobe. however, it looks like the app isn't very highly rated.

Of course there is also the Apple book reader which reads ePub and PDF. I tend to use it. I also use the Kindle app.
