Could use the ancient Romans' method, a sea sponge tied on the end of a stick; was commonly cleaned (or so they imagined) for reuse, including communally, with vinegar - perhaps the vinegar only for the hardy ?

I do not know if it is a company wide policy or if it is up to the individual store, but some Costcos are refusing returns on:
Toilet Paper
Paper Towels
Sanitizing Wipes
Water
Rice
Lysol
I hope this is a company wide policy and maybe other companies will follow suit.

The silly thing is that there's no real supply shortage, it's just panic buying which is - excuse the pun - wiping goods off the shelves. Supermarkets are going to do really well out of this pandemic.

I'm hoping that people will eventually run out of room or money to keep stockpiling, and the normal flow of shelf stocking can resume.
If not, I'll be cutting up newspapers. No, I won't throw them down the loo but into the bin. Unlike most, I haven't been panic buying. If I had done, loo roll would have been the last item I'd have thought of: food would take priority.

As someone on the front lines of a grocery store, what the hell is wrong with some people?

What goes in, must come out! I didn't buy any additional TP because I already had plenty. The only thing that I stocked up on was cat food, everything else I already had. I generally keep my pantry full and rotate the boxes. I also have a small chest freezer, same deal with various meats in that. At one time, it was a pretty common thing to do around here.

The only problem the stores are having is keeping up with demand. A truck can only carry so much. As soon as it is put out the panic buyers are continually wiping them out. The panic buyers traditionally return everything they haven't used after the panic is over. I think all of the stores should refuse to take the stuff back. It might teach them a lesson next time. Probably not though.

The majority of people tend to be lemmings. You would think we were descended from herd animals.

In my region of the US I think guns and ammo are giving toilet paper a run for the money as far as demand and empty shelves.

I bought a package of TP the other day to make sure I don't run short and a package of it that I split between two neighbors who were almost out. One has CP and uses a walker, the other is on meds to help her sleep and more to help her wake up in the morning so neither one would have been able to get to the store before the TP was all bought out again. Going early so that you are there right after the trucks deliver is the only sure way to get what you need before it vanishes off the shelves again. I stocked up on Maruchan instant lunch cups and some Ramen the other day (it's quick to make and helps raise my blood sugar when it goes low) but other than that I haven't really bought much more than I had. I make small meals since it's just me with mom having been gone 2 yrs now (as of March 25th). Haven't tried ordering anything more on Amazon, but then I don't usually buy a lot online usually. I am waiting for a book on building an e-bike (from a store in the UK) and a package of parchment circles (not sure where shipping from) for my Air Fryer, but neither is a item that needs fast shipping.

I'm gonna wait 6 or 8 weeks when the hoarders have no more room to store TP, but when the supermarkets are still stocking up for the rush. TP Prices are gonna PLUNGE! I'm gonna swoop in and corner the TP market. I'm gonna clean up!

Don’t thing that’s gonna happen here. In 6 or 8 weeks it will be the time to start stocking up for hurricane season.
