The band of dark (or light) is what we warned you about.

Apparently, it's a design issue.

Hopefully, the Forma name will soon (if not already) be discontinued and the [a] new one will be released, one that has corrected this issue.

The Libra doesn't have a light band. It has a somewhat uneven frontlight, but not such a sharply delineated band as can be seen on the photos made by the OP.

Neither does the Kindle Oasis, which has a similar design. The light band is specifically the Forma problem.

Fun fact: It took Amazon a *ridiculous* amount of prototype iterations to get the Oasis 3 'right'. But they can afford to (in every sense of the word ;p), and it's designed in-house, which helps.

I don't need the back or front or whatever light it is so I've turned mine down to 3%; just enough so that I can tell it's on. Turned down low like that the band goes away.
