I suspect that whoever wrote the notice about downloading items was thinking of music files, which do not have DRM at Amazon.

I would call and ask in person. You sometimes get different answers, or misunderstandings, depending on who you talk to.

I have an Amazon UK and two Amazon US accounts.

If you are a DRM stripper, why not.

Same here, though it has been a few years since I used the UK account.

I like being able to get some books sooner and or cheaper. UK Amazon gives me that option. I know some people have had problems using credit cards like Visa/MC, but American Express works fine.

I hadn't thought of that. Is there anyone problems using Kindle For PC with a US and UK account (as far as DRM stripping is concerned).

It's unfortunate that you didn't ask Amazon to combine two identical accounts so that you could close one. They can transfer most digital content in that instance. Generally, they can't transfer stuff that they no longer have the license to sell. In future, remember to take the advice of most of us here on Mobile Reads and liberate your digital content then keeping a copy on your computer and backup device.

When I talked to a higher up regarding my late sister's account, he recommended switching the account to my name until the extended warranties expire as those are not transferable. Once you close an account, there is access to nothing and he was pretty clear about that.

I've never known Amazon to "transfer" content from one account to another. In all these years around the various forums, I've never seen anyone actually prove they will. The licensing involved prohibits that specifically.

Are you sure? I just went to Amazon UK, logged in with my US Amazon id, looked at an ebook, and it said: "Kindle titles are available for US customers on Amazon.com.
Continue shopping on the Kindle Store at Amazon.com. "

I wasn't using the Amazon UK account for ebooks, I was using it for DVDs.

If you have any digital content DO NOT CLOSE THE ACCOUNT! Just leave it. If you don't want to use it to buy anything, then don't. But do not close it ro all your digital content could be gone. Even if you've downloaded all the eBooks and removed the DRM, there can still be updates to some of the eBooks.

I have never been able to login to Amazon UK using my US account and buy anything. It usually tells me that the content is not available to me.
