The lighting of my Clara HD that I bought from ebay is absolutely perfect. Yours should be from an old batch.

I'm hoping for you. The Shine 3 has such a good screen that I've pretty much decided that's it's the one absolute "keeper" when I get rid of my excess readers (I'll keep others but this one is my go to reader). It's the best screen I've got. The Clara should be that good as well. I would be really reluctant to compromise on this if I were you.

I bought a Clara HD in March this year and the light bleed was just a bit worse than this one.
I was told the lighting issues were solved, so that's why I bought a Clara HD. Of course the one I got was probably from an old batch, but then you'd never quite know when you're getting a good one or not. ![]() |

I can't see much in those pictures (aside from the screen protector). Maybe a slight unevenness along the bottom. That said I've had issues which when I taken picture doesn't show up as much in the pictures, so I'm not saying the issues aren't there.
FWIW I pre-ordered my Clara when it first came out and so I definitely got one of the first batch. I applied the tape fix and it worked really well. |

Ah, that definitely makes a difference. You're right, the screen doesn't look bad at all. I always tend toward the warm light setting on my Shine.

The Tolino's hardware is now the same as the Kobo's (except for the Page 2, which has more storage and RAM than the Aura Edition 2). But the firmware is much simpler (or more sparse) and Tolinos use Android instead of Linux. Personally I think the Tolinos are "cleaner." The advantage, for me, is that they have Adobe ADE built-in, so I can buy ePub books directly from bookstores.

Otherwise I didn't see any obvious light bleed. If you are worried about the little puffs of light and shadow along the bottom of the screen, I've seen that in any reader I've ever owned when setting the lights at a very low level in total darkness. |

@TJB4916 You still have the plastic film that came with the Clara HD. If you remove it, your screen will be good to go.

It's the plastic film which it's shipped with.
