A fake registration might get most of the benefits you want. There's at least one detailed thread on the forum if you want to look into that.

There's no way for Amazon to turn on your WiFi. They have no way of communicating with your KO3. So don't blame Amazon fo turning it on. They only way Amazon can communicate with any of your Kindles is for the WiFi to be on.

Maybe you accidentally turned WiFi on or someone else in at home did it.

Unlikely yes. Impossible, no.

If Amazon choose to do so, it wouldn't be likely to be done through the front door, which would necessitate an unlikely back door having been designed in place or even more implausible security exploit. No, they'd set some trigger in firmware, x event toggles wi-fi on.

But point taken, more likely it was a cat or other more mundane cause.

The OP doesn't have cats and lives alone.

Still, I don't believe Amazon would do it purposefully. I regularly check the battery level of all my devices and never, ever has wifi been turned on. Just checked again (my Oases are on 5.12.2). Yep, airplane mode as always.

I'd suspect there's something wrong with the OP's device hardware-wise, as there were those ghostly page turns as well.

It's hard to diagnose random events. There could be so many causes including a software bug or hardware issue. Unless we see a pattern or at least evidence implicating a culprit, all we can do is devise roadblocks for Amazon and wait to see if it happens again.

well, I have reconfigured everything, reregistered so I can use its abiilties, but if this happens again, it will go back. I only want the screen and page/font options, not the buttons, not bt/audible, and really want book screen savers so it seems a lot to pay for so little. beautiful, yes, but the honeymoon is now officially over.

none of the above which is why I got so angry so quickly. had to be the evildoer. lol

I have had weirdnesses occur having to do with settings reverting, large chunks of pages being turned, after only touching the metal case - and this is definite. once I only barely touched the left corner edges (once up top and once at the bottom) and it changed settings and jumped pages.

given this, I will offer benefit of the doubt, but only once.

I think the church of Amazon handles that and I may let them have a go at it. just spent two hours, no exaggeration, on the phone trying to get a replacement for a PW4 that was decimated during shipping (ups has upped their football, crush, & box opening skills) and discussing my haunted Oasis. another PW arriving on Thurs., hopefully not severely violated this time.

definitely. just shared that thought with Amazon. lol she wanted to troubleshoot with me.

in seriousness, the agent did an amazing job. her persistence and determination skills are right up there with mine. I had her and a team leader working in tandem. whew!
