Load kepubs, get a good sleepcover and see how your experience is then. Set Calibre up once for this and it will do it forevermore, until you tell it to stop. It doesn't require constant fiddling. Come back and ask further questions if you have them. Some might be solved by a very simple patching process, some might have other answers. Or if you want it to "just work" with zero setup or input from you, buy only from the Kobo ebookstore *shrug* Last edited by meeera; 09-12-2019 at 11:02 PM. |

Thanks @meeera , that's useful.
I've looked into Calibre and yes it does turn out that I'd been transferring/converting to epubs rather than kepubs. I thought I had all the requisite plugins installed, but apparently I hadn't. I had naively assumed that Calibre would "do the right thing" and know the best defaults for most common devices. I also stopped trying to tap-to-turn and just swipe and that works better too. (My delay in responding wasn't due to petulance, I just got busy and had to look into the Calibre configuration.) |

One more thing I find mildly frustrating is the switching on/off of the backlighting. To save battery, I'd like to usually have the backlighting off. ) And when I turn it back on I'd like to be able to turn the backlighting "back on to the previous levels it was at when it was on" and there is no way to do that, afaik.

I just picked up a clara HD to fill the void left by my currently broken Aura H2O.
I'm quite impressed, though the reduction in screen size is a loss, it is made up for with better clarity of text and the comfort light is a joy for my bedtime reading. It is also a lot lighter and easier to hold than the aura, so it's swings and roundabouts. |
