Many thanks, I primarily use an Onyx Boox Max 2 Pro (4 GB RAM). Nova Pro is my companion e-reader. I do prefer the Max 2 Pro but Nova is great when I require a more mobile option. I wish that Nova Pro had a non-frontlit variant with similar screen and buttons as the Boox Max 2 Pro.

It does seem that a majority of people are demanding frontlit devices, and the point of my post has been to say that some people would prefer unlit devices. I emailed Onyx International last week that I am concerned that when its time for me to upgrade I maybe forced to get a frontlit 13 inch e-reader lets in 3 years later. I hope that Onyx Int. will offer unlit variants of the devices in the future.

Thanks for taking note of my concerns.

QUOTE=Onyx Boox;3850048]Thank you for your support to Onyx Boox all the time!

Now the Onyx Boox ereaders on sale all adopt the I2C control mode. The brightness adjustment of the front light depends on the different parameters sent to the light chip through I2C signal, instead of the change of duty ratio.

You are suggested to use the ereaders with E Ink high resolution flexible display such as the Boox Note,Max2 or Max2 Pro, if you are very sensitive to the light.

Boox will continue to provide more eye-friendly products in the future, and make E-ink technology be accessible to everyone.[/QUOTE]

Maybe the key is to observe how much hours of intensive work you do daily. I'm a software developer so I have to spend most of my time in front of a screen. However I believe spending the time in front of the computer is not an issue (under a reasonable lightning conditions) but the time when I focus to work fast. I'm quite relaxed when I spend a day just typing, developing a stream of a new code, but my work typically require jumping through text quickly, reading non-language gibberish, sometimes just searching for anything odd in the logs or any doc... that's a bit demanding for the eyes. I bet it would be much the same if I had a no-light monitor.

Anyway, I just wanted to say, that your thread / message is a very good one. I'm so surprised that the e-ink space moves into LCD like space. Light, glossy surface, doesn't make any sense to me. Isn't it better to use tablet instead?

Have you tried PixelQi 10 (transmissive LCD screen, 10")? I am intrigued and thinking about ordering one on ebay. I have seen some PixelQi LCD Panels marked as new on ebay for about 120 USD (incl. P&P to EU) and a controller kit (no soldering required) for 20 USD.
If it works, then I might consider linking 4 or 6 Pixel Qi to make a big monitor. But I have no idea where to start.
I thought I would ask if you have had any experience with these transmissive LCD screens.

No I've never seen any Pixel Qi. I have no interest in them, since these are small displays, 7" - 10" and perhaps no decent dpi.

No worries.

Pixel Qi 10 is an LCD with the option to turn the backlight off (its black and white and needs external light source as for e-ink) and so it emits no light but has a decent refresh rate (30fps). I was thinking about stringing 4 of them together to build a monitor. But it seems out of my budget for now.

Wishing you a pleasant weekend.

Well, I thought these were color. Maybe not so good color representation but color. Anyway, if you really feel like in a need of them try it If you don't mind a little gap between tiles of a display you may easily 3D print a case for mounting multiple small LCD's.
