It sounds like you want a geometric font. The only one I have installed on my Kindle is Futura. But knowing that you want a geometric font should help you narrow down your search.

Thank you for all the great advice. I love Universalis, which is now on my kindle. Sirtel managed to sort out a working version of Futura Condensed for me. So I now have a choice of two simple, narrow fonts. The Futura Condensed works perfectly now, and shows italics etc where italics should be. Universalis is slightly rounder.
