I am resurrecting this thread because I am having the same problem. I use my iPad and iPhone when I am away from home. I am considering buying a Kobo reader so I wanted to check out the ios apps. I have bought quite a few books from Kobo. However, the dictionary doesn't work on my iPhone 7 or iPad Air 2. When I long touch a word I just get the option to highlight, add note or share. Any idea on how to fix this?

Hi all,

I also have issues on my Kobo app on Iphone 8 when highlighting words for definition. The dictionary either does nothing (I'm just given option of highlighting word, search in document or upload) or once out of every 20 attempts the dictionary works but is cumbersome and somewhat useless as it usually shows the definition of the wrong word or just flashes up and disappears in an instant. If anyone can help that'd be great. I've updated my Iphone and installed the latest kobo app.

The app certainly shouldn’t behave that way. Try deleting the app, and then reinstalling it. I just tested the dictionary on the iPhone and had no problems with the Kobo app, but it did have trouble loading Overdrive books initially. It’s possible this current version has some bugs.

I just installed the Kobo app on both my iPad Pro and my iPhone 7+. The dictionary pops up 3-7 seconds after I select a word. The highlight/note window appears right away, then the dictionary.

It works every time on the iPad, but doesn't always show up on the iPhone. Definitely hinky.

Grabbed a screen shot from the iPhone, that small area with the arrows is scrollable.

The Kobo app for iOS won’t update my library. The app is up-to-date and my iPad is running 13.6. Are there any known incompatibility issues?

I hesitate to try signing out and then back in. At last now it’ll download the books it’s already got in my library; it just won’t add my recent purchases. I’m afraid that if the update problem persists, once I sign back in I’ll have no books at all.

I’m now having this problem. It won’t add a book I just purchased. My iPad Air is running 15.6.1.

I never saw this post from two years ago! I would hope you’ve since fixed the problem.

Kobo recently updated the app this past summer. It seem to run smoother, and syncing seems improved. As for ebook purchases being out of sync, when that happens (it’s only happened 2-3 times to me over the years), I head to More>Help>Repair Your Account.

The next method is to sign out, as you’ve indicated. If you run into ebook syncing issues, this is one thing that customer support can be very helpful with. There have been times that a purchase on the web store or from a Kobo eReader does not sync to my iPhone/iPad. CS will delete the book, then reinstall it. That’s a worst case situation.
