If you're prepared to charge frequently and/or replace the battery, that mitigates that.
My five year old refurbished Kobo Aura still runs like a champ. I'm honestly Amazed how well the battery has held up. I've finally replaced the Aura, just because I wanted a better screen. But I'm planning on giving it to a relative and I imagine it'll still function for years.

Of course, that longevity is probably in part due to the Aura receiving daily use by me.

I bought a refurbished Aura HD recently (two months or so ago) and the battery life is great. I don't know long the battery will last, but I'm very optimistic, given how long I can go between charges.

I would definitely recommend buying a Glo HD, even if used. As long as the screen is in good condition, it's very easy to open and substitute both the SD card and the battery (there are guides to be found on the forum), I did both myself and I have absolutely zero experience working with electronics. Because of its ease of repair, it's a device that can last for a very long time and with specs that are still quite good. I bought one which was like-new a couple of years ago and have absolutely no intention of substituting it unless there are some major updates in the future.

Thanks all for the help. I've managed to find a used Aura One for $50 locally and couldn't be happier with it. The battery seems 100%, its waterproof, 8BG memory, adjustable night light color. Everything my Clara HD has plus more for a third of the price. My inner bogglehead is quite happy with my purchase...

Did you ever got it? I bought one, but after getting a message from eBay that the auction was removed and the seller no longer was registered on ebay, I opened a case with Paypal and got my money back....

Still can use a spare one

Just curious

There is a pattern to scammers on eBay you can watch out for.
1. The name is gobbledegook, like ioepwqurop7.
2. The price for the Kobo is way too good to be true.
3. The seller claims to be from one country, but is shipping the item from another.
4. They never respond to your messages.
5. Their account is not very old.
6. All their positive feedback is within the same day, and always as a buyer, not a seller.
7. After purchasing the item, you will notice a transaction from a Chinese individual, usually with Chinese characters.
8. Obviously, the Kobo never arrives.

I have fallen prey to this twice over the past two years, so I'm more careful now. There must be an overseas band of thieves fishing for suckers on eBay who take cheap eReaders as bait. Involve eBay in the problem right away. I've always received a refund.

All common except the Chinese. They can easily be any nationality.

I've only ever lost money to someone in the UK. Paypal recovered most of it. I think though he was an idiot rather than scammer. Obviously had marine related business and was selling off unwanted nicknacks on eBay. I suspect he either misplaced it or sold it also to someone local and didn't cancel the ebay listing.
