help!
I exported the database on my old system, and got 8 files with names starting with part-0001.calibre-data I have now installed the latest Calibre on my new system, and tried to do an import. Pointing at the folder where the export files are stored, Calibre doesn't recognize the file types. What am I missing?? thnx, M . |

You did use the IMPORT part of the Import/Export and not add books, right?

I finally figured it out. For one thing, the individual "part-0001" files don't show up when importing. They are there, and read. Just confused me.
For another - when I started the new, vanilla Calibre on the new system, before importing I specified an empty library, but the same library that I would eventually import into. But this put a new database in the empty library, and Calibre wouldn't import into it (because it wasn't empty). I figured it out - by creating a different library before importing into the library I actually wanted. After the import was finished I deleted the original, empty library. So in the end I got it to work. . |

FWIW
Those part files are part of what is known as a "spanned archive". Those were originally used to store large files on 1.2M floppies (yes, that long ago ![]() Kovid must have done something special, because WinRar can peek, but they do not behave like any typical RAR. With those, launching any of the members, opens 'the parent' (and all the little kiddies) |
