With the new firmware, you can choose two page mode for epubs which will then give you two columns. However, that function will only operate in landscape mode.

There are some simple cropping settings for PDFs. Not ideal perhaps, but they do help a bit.

Landscape mode is not what I am looking for 2 columns

I want 2 or 3 columns on portrait and 4 to 6 on landscape to read a book like a newspaper without moving my eyes horizontally and the reading speed and confort.

Also, pdf's have HUGE margins comparing with what you can do on third party apps

They just need to copy librera features adding extra columns (librera limit it to 2, 3 portrait and 6 landscape would be perfect)

seriously, reading epubs with 2 columns on portrait is so neat, for technical ebooks you don't need to move back and forward so many times it makes a huge impact.

I have installed the 2.1 firmware on my Max via the 'Chinese' method, and whilst it has some good innovations, there are some rough edges to it. I would recommend everyone to wait for the official English release.

Does anyone know if downgrading to 2.0.1 via the local update method would be problematic? I have never downgraded on my Onyx devices before.

Many thanks!

For example, the toolbar when invoking Scribble mode does not disappear or minimise like the previous firmware, so it hides part of the document. Palm rejection is also hit and miss. The auto-scribble mode (without invoking Scribble mode explicitly) suffers because of this, at least in my usage. Hopefully the final firmware will take care of these issues.

I have managed to downgrade via local upx without any issues, to 2.0.1.

I figured that would probably be the case, but at least its something until they get around to enabling that functionality.

Completely agree. The first time I heard someone mention that they wanted an ereader the size of a smartphone, I thought it was crazy. But then when I eventually got a smartphone after many years of resisting one, I found they are not actually all that bad for light reading of epubs. It is just like having one column without any other material to distract you.

Actually, on the PDFs which I have looked at on the Nova Pro, the cropping function is not too bad. But I suppose it depends on the PDF.

No, I found it is not a big deal. It seems that there will be a navigation ball in the latest firmware. May be you could use that ball to cover up that bookmark silhouette.

Do you guys think this update will be available for the Boox Note as well? I desperately need the new sidenote function (associated with documents instead of pages)

it should be available to all the current lineup as they use the same hardware with different screen size only.

there is no excuse to not update all the devices.

Yes, I do agree with you. The new firmware update will be accessible for all boox devices. I am waiting for the new one for my Note.

Some users complained and Onyx got it and replied that they were considering to bring the option back.

By switching to chinese language, yesterday i updated my Nova to the new firmware.
Without a 2.1 manual, while i find newreader 3.0 a bit better for managing epub files,
i got a bit lost with the pdf zoom features.
My pdf use case are big newspapers format like berliner.
On previous firmware i was able to do finger zoom to the confortable reading size (150% or above) on part of the page and then navigate a single page/article by finger movements.
If i wanted to go to the next page i would have to zoom back with fingers to the minimum dimension *and then* click on the right to turn page.
With this version of newreader, if i act this way i always end up somewhere in the next page even though i just moved my finger on cm to the left to read last printed column.
It drives me mad.
Is there a way to put a "resistance" to change page?
I hope i was able to explain myself.
I'm considering rollbacking, if i found out previous file

Does anyone know how to roll back to the previous version? I did the update by changing language. I'd like to see if Onyx changes the issue on Neoreader on the English release of 2.1.

I rolled back easily by downloading the upx file from the Onyx website and 'updating' from local file.

The Chinese version of 2.1 seems to be a work in progress, and that's probably why it hasn't been released in English yet. The PDF issues mentioned above, as well as the Scribble toolbar not minimising like NeoReader 2.x, where the reasons why I rolled back.

I have similar use (large newspapers), and had similar issues. NeoReader 3.0 is not a finished product yet. I recommend you use FoxIt PDF or ezPDFReader for large newspaper pages, they render hidden parts too and you get a smooth scrolling through a large page, especially in A2 mode. My issue with NeoReader, all versions, is that it always has to pause for rendering the 'hidden' parts of the page, and does that only when you scroll to them.
