All my books wouldn't fit on one ereader, so I don't try to keep them all on. But different strokes. Since so many of my books are parts of series, I sideload so that I can use the Plugboard to indicate what book # in what series. Sideloaded books wouldn't show up in the status anyway. This is how mine is under Your Kindle:
Jack Reacher - 08 - The Enemy Lee Child ......................... 50% I've read half of that book. Unread books only show the dots and their number will vary according to length of book. I use Calibre to set up the book series. |

Since I have linked my Goodreads account to my kindle it automatically marks them as I read and finish, however, since I don't keep all the books on the kindle I have also as I purchase a book put it in a collection called Unread, then when I finish reading a book I move it from unread to read. If I forget I can just look it up on my Goodreads to see if I read it.

It's Amazon's Goodreads, sadly. Which is why I'd not link a Kindle. Also even it it wasn't Amazon's I value my privacy.

I have been a big reader my whole life. I cannot imagine storing all the books I have read since I fist downloaded a Kindle book on the device. Any system of collections you can think of will be superseded if you read enough. When you start you may have SF as a collection. Later it may need to be divided into Hard SF and Fantasy. Then later add apocalyptic and dystopian. I think the same could be applied to any category or collection.
I can go into Amazon and go under Kindle books and see my Content and Devices. Then I can search for titles and/or authors but again, do I want to read through thousands of titles. I like to read but do not want to spend as much time sorting and cataloging my books so I can have them all on one device. |

You are correct. I did assume you would have to categorize them in some manner. That is easier to comprehend than loading thousands of books with nothing but title, recent, or author to search with.

I find it entirely satisfactory, but of course everyone’s tastes in these matters varies. Even with that many books searching titles and authors is almost instantaneous.

At this moment I have 9425 books on my 32GB Oasis, and it still has 3.5GB free. That figure includes all 200+ of the sometimes extremely large Delphi omnibus editions, many of which contain dozens of books, so the total number of individual books is probably somewhere around the 11k-12k mark.

I am now seeing the new read/unread filter on my Oasis (running 5.11.1.1 firmware) and in the Kindle for Android and Kindle for iOS apps.
(The feature did not appear until after I restarted my Kindle.) |

I had already been playing with it on my iPhone and really like it. It means I’ll be able to get rid of the two largest collections I use that just manage Read/Unread status, and they are painfully slow to manage on Kindles. However first I need to mark some additional books that I’ve read as Read. And I like how Filters work now on Kindle. Much clearer to see what is going on. Something’s wrong when you toggle Read + Audible on the Kindle however: it shows only 5. So it is not picking up correct Audible status. Last edited by tomsem; 04-10-2019 at 10:41 PM. |

![]() For me, it was *not* triggered by a firmware update, and *not* triggered by a restart either. It seems enabling wifi was sufficient. My firmware must already had support for this filter and Amazon just now flipped the switch on my account. Remotely enabling features is scary... Hopefully they haven't coded a "Remove Jail Break" feature ![]() |
