You should be able to use the patched KoboRoot on all hardware revisions, as they are ensured to be identical when generating the testdata for the patches. If this changes in a future version, I will make a note of this in the instructions.

And, speaking of the instructions, it would be nice if people could give some suggestions all in one place to make them easier to understand for newer users. It's hard to write clear instructions when you're already quite used to working with the firmware and patches.

I suspect this discussion branched off from my mention of injecting the patched files back into the original KoboRoot.tgz so you could update and patch at the same time. That patched KoboRoot.tgz is hardware revision specific though you might be able to generate a massive patched file with all the system updates in the upgrade directory and a KoboRoot.tgz with the various graphics files, etc. in addition to the patched files.

I would agree there. I've done the patching often enough that, at times, I find it hard to break the steps out.

Should we start a documentation project, either on the MR wiki or the GitHub project's wiki (then the issue tracker could be used to track requests or suggestions if people aren't willing to make edits themselves)? Would be easier than trying to track/refer people to a bunch of forum posts.

For the instructions on the patch threads, I either want to discuss it in a GH issue or a new MR thread. For further documentation, I don't mind if it's on GH or MR.

I know, but you were mentioning to patch only the same mark... as an answer to the comment about different devices. So, or automatic (problem with different devices) or manual, like now.

FWIW, I rename FW update packages with a mkN- prefix for just that reason ^^.

Then again, the whole process is more-or-less scripted on my end, so I have a bit more leeway on how to deal with that kind of things .

I don't rename but have two sub-folders under Kobo, Mark4 & Mark6 where all firmware downloads go

@ReaLx3m

I'm still working my way through how to do this and I think I have it mostly. the yaml file posted was a big help. thank you.

with regards to "3.Run kobopatch.bat" where do I find this or does it live in one of the patching files? thanks

Its in the root directory of any downloaded standard patch pack, e.g. kobopatch_4.19.14123.zip.

kobopatch.bat hasn't changed between fw 4.18.13737 and 4.19.14123, so the copy from either patch pack should be OK.
