ebook cover as screensaver is the only reason I still jailbreak. If Amazon ever adds that (like they did the custom fonts) I'll abandon jailbreaking.

We might just agree to disagree. When my tablet is out of battery the kindle with koreader does quite well at displaying images from my guitar fretboard for dummies epub.

Dictionary lookup could be a bit faster, but with wallabag, custom fonts, news downloader, ability to download entire wikipedia articles for offline viewing, one-tap night mode, ridiculously detailed status bar, exporting notes to evernote built in, reading statistics so i know if i hit my 1 hour reading goal each day, dropbox integration, I don't know how I could ever go back to the 'stock' experience.

There are perhaps *too many* options but it's kind of like the guitar. You can enjoy it without going too deep, but there are benefits to exploring it in depth

As for KOreader, it stands out for its ability to use an inverted display as a night mode. I wish there were an extention to invert the display in the stock kindle reader.

I think I'll keep my Kindle Voyage WiFI jailbroken, and probably leave the PW4 LTE on a regular firmware.

You could jailbreak it and then decide later if you want jailbreak enhancements. Once you update you can’t go back and jailbreak.

@Almamida: Jailbroken Kindles still use regular firmware (after you've done all the work you had to do while on "factory firmware" you update your device back to "consumer"/ regular firmware).
Jailbreak in Kindle-land is just one certificate file added to firmware. And jailbreak has zero effect on things like battery life and CPU usage.

In other words: if you have a choice you should always jailbreak, even if you think that you will never need to use that freedom it provides. Better to have it and not use it than to not have it when unforseen situation arises.

Ok, you make a point. I didn't connect it to a WiFi and use exclusively the cellular connection for now. So no risk to update

Another reason to JB as soon as possible is you don't need to do a reset to clean up the internal databases.

I might use it for collections. I just did the jailbreak, hotfix and update. It was easy and super fast.

Great! Now if you ever get an update, just apply the latest hotfix so the jailbreak sticks around.

I am in the same boat. Not sure why Amazon resists doing this for anyone who pays to remove the ads. The ability to have the active book cover as a screensaver seems both an elegant use of screensaver and does not cut into Amazon's "grip" on the device.

amazon produce kindle for read book, but I was wondering if I can write a book on kindle, Obviously we can only read book on kindle without jailbreak
after Jailbreak , I wrote my own text editor for kindle， it become a mobile text editor, as a text editor kindle has 3 advantage comparing with mobile phone :
1. Longer battery life
2. better screen, very clear text under the sunlight and bigger screen
3. Blocking the internet, no bothering message

I have writen more than One hundred thousand words on my the text editor ， without jailbreak that is impossible，
